Boneyard Thread

Postby X Hoops 19 » Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:25 pm

Long time Holyland reader, first time poster. I know the subject of BE expansion has been discussed on here countless times, but with the off-season dead period in full swing, I figured I’d bring it up.
I saw @NoEscalators (formerly “UConn should be in The Big East”) bring up a UConn to the BE rumor on twitter this morning, so I checked it out on The Boneyard. This would more-so be a question for our Providence brethren, as one of your largest donors is supposedly the source of the rumor. Any of you have any idea who this donor would be, and have you’ve heard anything remotely similar?

Here’s the initial post: (He followed up with additional insight on the 2nd page of the thread)
“I know I'll get crucified for this thread, but just passing along something I heard today, because it came from a very credible source. Largest private donor at Providence, directly involved in their athletic department and knows Tranghese well (who he says UConn hired as a consultant at some point) says he's 95%+ sure that UConn will be joining the NBE in 2021. Says the school gave Herbst the authority to do it on her way out the door, football will be killed so the next President doesn't have to deal with it and we'll move to the NBE. I couldn't believe it as I've heard nothing as specific about it, but this is a credible, connected guy.
All pile on now....”

don't know if this is true. Big athletic donors are Michael Ruane. (new practice facility is named for him) Karl Andersen donated 5 m for soccer/LAX complex Im not aware of others that hve made larger donations than those two

If that was true it would’ve been revealed in a FOI request by now.

Dunning Krueger Effect... the dumber a person is, the more confident they are in their own intelligence. The smarter a person is, the more self-aware they are.

Football fans at the Boneyard are louder, more aggressive, more dimwitted, and more annoying.

The football people there have dumber arguments based on dumb assessments of the situation, and live in the Dunning-Krueger world.

They also have absolutely no creative genes, can't see possibilities... live in a world of no forward thinking.

I’m inclined to not believe any of these rumors just because we’ve seen them before. But one poster noted that UConn would need to give the AAC 27 months notice that they’re leaving. Their President who, according to the rumor, has been given authority to begin the process of either shutting down or moving down the football program on her way out, is leaving on July 31st, from what I’ve read. 27 months from the end of July 2019 is the beginning of the 2021 basketball season, which is when they’d supposedly joining the BE. Again, most likely pure coincidence, but it’s interesting, nonetheless.

if they were joining the BE they would start with the beginning of fall season and not beginning of BB season. 27 months from now is sept 2021 . Classes and fall sports already in session.
