Wow, great news! Ed has a lot of great things going on in Providence. New basketball facility just opened, and still getting star recruits to PC. Also, he was already making similar money as Beilein.

So it's been a week, and Michigan after losing their coach to the Cleveland trainwreck, couldn't land Cooley, and Donovan wasn't interested, and Juwan Howard may get another NBA job. At what point is this Michigan search going to be considered in "disarray"?

And it provides super optics for the Big East. :o)

Also, i dont know why EMT took Rick Pitino off the table? I hadn't heard that. I heard that he was still an option.

Since 2014, the Big East has lost Buzz Williams (Virginia Tech), Chris Holtmann (Ohio State) and Chris Mack (Louisville) to other programs. Greg McDermott turned down Ohio State (which apparently then pivoted to Holtmann). Kevin Willard turned down advances from Pittsburgh, and also turned down Virginia Tech (if you believe VT message boards, they also pursued Wojo and were rebuffed). Jay Wright has been pursued by many programs (collegiate and professional), yet remains at Villanova. Ed Cooley has now just turned down Michigan.

I would be very curious to see what our coaching salaries are today to compare with other P5 programs. At Marquette, we were paying Buzz over $3 million per year as recently as 2014. It seems like that is the going-rate for coaches in major conferences now. I believe Wojo's previous deal was under that (but have no idea what it is under his most recent extension).

Last year the mid-west coaches bounced, this year the east coast coaches stayed.

yep, the BE keeping another average coach for Jay to beat up on...ho hum.

So what you're say'in is that Cooley is making a lot of cash...
Cooley $2.6 Mill a year. Seems that perhaps Cooley is overpaid.

Con: Cooley Has A Losing Record In Big East Conference Games

Ed Cooley has been at Providence since 2011 and has gone 71-73 in Big East play during that time. I always say that a coach’s record in conference play is the best determinant of how good they really are; the NCAA Tournament is a crapshoot with a small sample size, and non-conference schedules are not all created equal. In theory, a conference is full of peer schools. Against his peers in the Big East, Ed Cooley is only average.

;) Yep if I were a Nova fan, I'd be happy to see Ed and the rest stay in conference.

Only one of them bounced and wojo and McDermott turned down multiple offers. Should probably be noted that the midwestern coaches have also been more successful than the eastern coaches with the exception of jay wright and thus receive more serious interest from bigger programs.

Okay, I’m just going to assume you are either trolling or just ignorant because you were in some mid major conference with Drake and other powerhouses during this time but Cooley took over easily the worst program in the BE. To count his 1st season is ridiculous. 2nd season NIT, from there he has been doing just great. To deny that this guy is a good coach is insane, and not one other coach in the entire NCAA feels this way including Jay Wright.
