Huge news out of Friartown: A source has informed me that Friars coach Ed Cooley intends to accept a deal to become the new head coach for Michigan basketball. #pcbb

I would not have faulted Cooley if he had gone to Michigan, but it still would have stung given the abundance of coaches our programs have lost to the B1G/ACC in the last decade. Cooley staying is a huge momentum gain for Providence and for the Big East. When we get successful, program-building, coaches - we need to do everything we can to keep them. I'm glad Providence made him an offer to keep him in Friartown.

Damn, that's a shame. Looks like a guy who could use a raise and a larger mortgage...

Realistically, how much of a raise would michigan give him? He's getting paid 2.6 i think at providence, which is a lot for someone with only 1 win in the ncaa tournament. i doubt many places would be willing to give him much more money than he's currently making. Also, he's at the big east meetings right now, should have a pretty good team next year, and his wife just graduated from providence. it didnt make a lot of sense to me other than him trying to get a little more money out of providence.
