OT: Creighton moves from Midwest to National University

Postby LMS » Tue Apr 30, 2019 10:36 am

Maybe not huge news but interesting to those of us locally. Nice to see Creighton viewed as a national university now.

From CU Pres:
“Creighton’s distinctive offerings and complexity across our nine schools and colleges has been recognized by the prestigious Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Carnegie has added the University to its new category of Doctoral/Professional universities from our current ranking as a Master’s university.

As a result, Creighton’s ranking on various recognition lists, such as U.S. News & World Report, will soon change. The University has been listed under Midwest Regional Universities, and we have been No. 1 in that category for 16 consecutive years, but we are now included in the highly regarded National Universities category, which should be a new source of pride for the entire Creighton community.

The change by Carnegie was the result of the creation of an entirely new category of doctoral universities that offer at least 30 professional practice doctorates – such as MD, JD, DMD, PharmD, etc. – across a minimum of two programs. There are 123 private and 29 public universities in the new category with an average enrollment of just below 10,000 students each.”

Congrats to Creighton. Not sure why you singled out us and Butler and didn't include marquette and depaul. Considering nebraska as part of the midwest is really stretching the midwest. They don't have a great plains region?

He [gtmoBlue] singled out Butler and Xavier because they're in the same category. DePaul and Marquette are considered National Universities because they offer doctoral programs, while Butler, Creighton and Xavier do not. Providence was ranked #2 in Regional Universities in the North, while the rest of the schools in the league are considered National Universities.

National Universities:

22 - Georgetown
49 - Villanova
89 - Marquette
119 - DePaul
119 - Seton Hall
152 - St. John's

Uh, this is very much huge news for the school, its alumni and for the conference. What an amazing accomplishment for the university. Congrats, Jays! It is a great sign and payoff of the investments the school has made over the years.

I believe the national university designation is now held by DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova, and, now, Creighton in the Big East.

Emmensely saddened by this news as our streak of 16 years as the #1 university in the Midwest Region is over. Nice move to the national level though.

Butler is happy as hell as they now hold the mantel of #1 in the Midwest Region. Go dawgs! You've earned it!

Progress, harrumph...but it should mean more/increase in research dollars...Go Blue! ;)

Welcome to the club. Wonder where you'll land.

On another note if Marquette continues to move down as they have since my class graduated I'll be pissed.

Now that CU is a "national university", coupled with the fact of opening up an Arizona campus in a couple of years. Jays ought to play our home games in Phoenix.
Waddaya think fellas? Great idea. :o  ;)
