St John's---> Hires Mike Anderson - Outstanding, A+ ...

Anderson = high floor, low ceiling. Compared to where SJU is it's an improvement however he in no way is better than Bobby Hurley or Tim Cluess. His style is becoming ineffective with the way the game has changed. Sure as hell isn't an A+ hire. You need to actually watch his teams the last few years. Arkansas couldn't wait to fire him and they did.

There's a reason why no one was banging his door down for coaching interviews. Well except St. John's that is.

Okay and you need to walk before you run. We have been just a step above DePaul if we're all being honest here. He's 59, if he stays 8-10 years he can make us perennial NCAA tourny team which is step toward being a much more attractive place to coach when he leaves. We need competence before we can even dream about greatness.

Wow I would have never thought they would hire Anderson. His coaching style seems kinda gimmicky to me sort of like West Virginia. But his teams held their own in an increasingly competitive league. The SEC is stacked with elite and quality coaches its ridiculous. Even though its outta nowhere hire in a couple years he should have the Johnnies in the top half of the league. Just seems wierd cuz he was coaching in the deep south and i mean deep. I think he will be alright, I mean Arkansas was decent this past season.

As a Creighton fan who wakes up every morning thanking his lucky stars that Creighton is in the Big East I whole heartily applaud this hire.

For the Big East to reach its greatest potential St. Johns has to be a player, in the limelight, the rankings, the headlines, a Big Cajuna, a contender. Same for Georgetown.

St. Johns can own New York City and when that happens the Big East can own the World.

I’m just a shlub from Council Bluffs , Iowa. Right across the river from Omaha, home of the Jays. But I love these huge brands that we get to take on in the Big East. I am still having trouble hating any team in this conference.

I think this is good for St. John's, New York and the Big East. Anderson plays a hard nosed, fast paced game with heavy pressure defense. He also said he likes difficult non-conference schedules to test the team early on. I don't know what next years schedule looks like for the Johnnies but the AD said he wants all nine Big East games at the Garden plus two marquee non conference ones there every year. I assume one will be West Virginia and Mike Repole in the interview on WFAN the other day said we were playing Duke at the Garden again so they must have renewed that series.

Speaking of Duke, Newsday has a great article on how Anderson wound up in Queens. Apparently, Pitt coach Jeff Capel (former Duke assistant and friend of Cragg) was having breakfast and his wife said, "Have you told Mike about Coach Anderson?" Capel apparently texted Cragg to ask if he looked into Anderson. Cragg said he had and wanted to know more from Capel. After that call, Cragg called Coach K to get his thoughts on Anderson who said "Wow. If you can get him, that'd be amazing." SO Cragg then contacted him and brought him to NYC.

I really think this is a home run. I know the non-NYC thing gets people riled up but that is over rated. Lok at Buzz Williams. Guy from Texas coached winners at Marquette and Va Tech - and built the program at Va Tech. Anderson will have New York guys on staff and there were some big City HS coaches and AAU guys at the press conference. He's git some swagger which will help and besides Pitino, this may have been the next best grab for the Johnnies. I would rather have him over Hurley and Cluess. Happy Easter to all. The Johnnies are always good for some drama whether it's during the season or the off-season so you are all welcome for the entertainment over the last ten days. Here’s an article from today’s NY Post about our new coach. Seems like a fantastic hire. Now we just need some players and maybe we can get back to being a consistent program. I’m hopeful!
