The "smoke" turned out to be dry ice and there was no fire. The thread has evolved into a football one. Time to shut'er down. While you're at it...can we get a expansion thread/AAC free zone for a year (2019)? And a Steverrrr free zone for 2 years? 2019 & 2020 will be nice without him. Caio Steve, see you in 2021.

If anyone starts a expansion thread - shut it down ASAP. Same with a AAC thread. If another topic thread devolves into expansion/aac - shut it down. Give us loyal BE fans a reprieve and a break - no expansion or aac threads.

Not related to this thread, but because it involves money I figured this would be the place since UCONN discussion seems to focus on their financial situation. It also raises the question of how long many mid-majors can fund all of their Olympic sports if there isn't big football money coming in.

Eastern Michigan just announced that they are dropping 4 sports - wrestling, men's swimming, softball and women's tennis due to financial constraints.

Leyluken was watching St Louis play Houston yesterday, and came away impressed at the job Travis Ford has done there.

Leyluken remembers how the Billikens former HC Rick Majerus had it going there.

Despite losing to Houston, StLouis appears to be approaching Majerus levels, beating Seton Hall AT Seton Hall and beating Butler.

That’s a good 11th team for the new big east. Institutionally, only Dayton is as good of a fit. However, Frank Haiti and Tulsa beat Dayton yesterday and I think Ford has already shown he has the program already competing at the same level as this conference.

99% of the time even with an 8 team CFP, the extra 4 spots would go to Ohio St., Auburn, ND, Michigan, etc. when they aren't in the top 4. In other words, maybe once in a blue moon a UCF gets in over Texas or the like, but they would be absolutely demolished by real teams if they made it that far. UCF plays cupcakes almost all the time. The only way a CFP would truly give these cinderellas a real chance is if it was a big tournament like college hoops. Much more opportunities for upsets. But in football there's much less parity than in college hoops. You have essentially like 10 pro level teams and everyone else. Ball State would never stand a chance in hell against Bama, but in basketball even if Bama was #1 they would.

It doesn't really change things that much. The AAC is a refugee camp, not a conference. That will never change.

You know UCF beat Auburn last year right? Anyone can win on any given day. Who thought Boise had a chance against OU?

Unfortunate to see this play out in public. As much as UCONN fits the Big East, things like this don't help the case to be added in my opinion.

Kevin Ollie cites Jim Calhoun and racial discrimination as part of suit against UConn

Former Connecticut men's basketball coach Kevin Ollie has filed a complaint against the university in federal court, alleging it illegally attempted to stop him from filing a racial discrimination claim stemming from his firing in March.

The complaint, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Hartford, claims Ollie was subject to "disparate treatment" compared with his predecessor and former coach Jim Calhoun.

Ollie alleges that Calhoun, the Hall of Fame coach who won three national titles at UConn, managed to keep his job despite committing NCAA violations more serious than those Ollie was accused of and that were used to justify his firing last spring.

"Calhoun ... was found to have engaged in conduct in violation of NCAA rules and regulations following an investigation conducted by the NCAA and Defendant in 2011 and 2012 that was more severe than the conduct which Defendant has identified as the basis for its decision to terminate Plaintiff's employment, but Defendant never terminated the employment of Jim Calhoun," reads the complaint.

Even if it's taken at face value, football's indirectly affecting other things like exorbitant travel costs.

Also all the scholarships UConn needs to have to balance out the FB program to be title IX compliant.
