I don't agree with the Johnnies fans here. Like, they all seems to have drank the koolaid that Mustapha Heron is the savior. Nevermind that their biggest need is a center, they make it sound like one player is gonna be responsible for whether they're top 25 good or an afterthought. It almost never works out like that.

It's very common for a single player to impact outlook significantly. That happened with SJU last year when LoVett went down. He wasn't a Center.

Take your team. Had any of the 4 NBA picks returned, they'd be viewed as a FF threat. As it stands BE may not have any Top 25 teams (aside from Nova) because we lost a bunch of major players. Put Heron on Providence, Butler, Xavier, etc, and I bet some of them would be placed Top 25 pre-season. Should the Johnnies be given pre-season Top 25 for his addition? No, but I do think they'll appear in the Top 25 at some point if he plays.

Heron is a proven 2nd team All SEC player. Considering how top heavy the SEC has been the last few years with all their 5 star players (Heron included), that'd be a major addition regardless of position. Again, we saw what happened to the team when Ponds lost LoVett mid season. If LoVett (guard) didn't have the season ending injury, they make the Tournament easily. You're correct that Center is a concern, but Heron will without any doubt be a significant upgrade, on both ends of the floor.

Gotta admit...seeing that 2018 BE Championship banner in the hands of another team is quite unsettling. One of these days we'll get our confetti shower. I mean, if you can't win your own conference, how the hell can you expect to...

Oh, never mind... :D

Image

A stellar .854 winning % in the BE in the last 5 years of the conference. 4 BE Reg season titles and 3 BE tourney titles. 5 Preseason OOC tournament titles. 2 FF's and 2 NC's. 3 BE POY's, 2 1st Team AA's and a NPOY, a coach who has been named Conf COY 3x and NCOY. 4 players that have gone on to play in the NBA and another 4 drafted this past year. I guess we do OK.

But you may be right...nothing is guaranteed. You have to earn everything in this league. I guess we'll just have to see. I would not bet against The Program, if past performance is any indication of future results.

That's deliciously excellent good bad form Gumby. You guys simply have way too much ammo at this point in these discussions. It's like having a bazooka at a knife fight.

Don't get me wrong here. I luv you guys in Philly and have the utmost respect for Jay and the Wildcats. You don't find better than Villanova. If I wasn't a diehard alum and Creightonian, I'd be hangin with Gumby, Chesty, and NovaChap, as Nova has a great group of fans, both online and off. :)

However, it's the principle of the thing. I've been a Jay since arriving on the Hilltop back in the mid seventies and I'll be a Jay when they kick the dirt in my face! My Creighton "brethren" have bestowed several monikers on me over the years: "the Black-eye, asshole, and pretentious prick of Creighton Basketball". I wear those badges Proudly!! "Once a Bluejay, always a Bluejay"! I'm rooting for my Jays come hell or high water, and against whomever/whichever team is ahead of them (at the top). In this case it's the defending National Champions, the Villanova Wildcats...so be it. I don't care if you had UCLA #'s of championships, Duke talent, and the big number, shitty, and well-traveled Syracuse fanbase. It's the principle and I gotta stand on it.

Luv ya Nova nation, but it is what it is. Luv ya Chesty... gtmo ;)

I'm a realist. Picking CU any higher than 8th isn't warranted based on what we lost and the hope that a nice role player coming off his second ACL tear is suddenly going to be an All Big East performer.

It's time 4U to see your medical specialist and have your meds changed-adjust your dosages. Meds obviously affecting your judgement & decision making faculties.

There is talk around Nova fan circles this AM about a secret scrimmage that occurred that pitted the current team vs some recent grads that now play professionally (Hart, DiV, Hilliard, Ochefu). Apparently the current squad “won by over a dozen.”

Noted observations: Paschall dominated like a man possessed. Booth in complete control. Cole Swider dunking on Ochefu and raining 3’s like Doug McDermott lite (sorry for the blasphemy Jays fans). Quinerly, Cremo and Slater all look like the real deal. Even redshirt Soph Dylan Painter looks like a different player with that year off to develop his game.

Uh oh. Maybe just a reload...
