Thanks for the heads up on Villanova and Marquette - I went through the university sites to update their figures to exclude the NIT for Marquette and update Villanova's for the game played at Nevin against Penn. For Villanova, it only changed the capacity by 1 percentage point. For Marquette I actually calculated the average attendance at 13,857 or a 75% capacity.

Someone probably knows better than I do, but for whatever reason our game vs. Hofstra in New York was a home game for Nova. Won't change much, the 60% figure sounds about right.

Friartown runs New England when it comes to attendance. By far.

Oh... and looks like Cooley is trying to steal Marquette fans too! Article is from March but was recently posted on the Friars board. Cooley is just about the best thing to ever happen to our program.

A far cry from 1981 when Marquette played Cuse in the Carrier Dome for an NIT game and 21,000 showed. Several schools have moved NIT games into their secondary facilities. It just makes sense.

Why is Villanova only 59% capacity? Don't they sell out all their on campus games, and only play a few at Wells Fargo Center? I even think they cut back Wells Fargo games so they could be eligible for the East region of the NCAA Tournament. I know when the Johnnies visited they played at WFC and didn't sell out, but I thought that was the exception rather than the norm.

They played all their games at Wells Fargo last year right due to the renovations?

Thanks, didn't know that.

I'm surprised they only averaged 11.8K a game, then... This is a team that has been #1 for years and won a Championship two years ago. They also pack the Garden whenever they play SJU and during the BET.

Not that I'm knocking Nova, obviously they are the best thing to happen to our conference. I'm just surprised they're not averaging 15K+.

1st they don't own the WFC, and they split time there with the pros. Nova has a hellacious w/l record at the damned Pavilion - I sure as hell would rather play 'em at the WFC. I'm hoping for a water main break at/near the Pavilion on Creighton game day, or the renovation has flaws and needs redoing. ;)
