Been wondering that same question. I personally think it is an important milestone achievement. I've been preaching irt season milestones recently on the CU boards. The overwhelming majority there like and readily accept being a mid pack team in the conference. Some have openly said they think, now that we are a major in the BE, that we can dance without a conference tourney - that the BET is less important than resting/healing for the dance. I totally disagree, but am in the 5-10% minority.
As one who got used to winning conf tourneys in the past, I believe in entering the dance on a winning run. Furthermore, the BET is a significant milestone during the overall season and provides bragging rights and hardware. I am a staunch believer in acquiring hardware.
The minority v majority are currently in a pissing match. Majority is in "living a dream, happy to be here" mode and accuses the minority of being ungrateful for the achievements we've made. Reaching 20 w's and making the dance is fine with the majority and they equate dissatisfaction/frustration with wanting to dump Mac (which a few have verbalized). The minority (me included) cite the lack of achieving milestones, lack of championships & hardware, and the late season swoons/surrendering 2nd half leads too many times to teams we should beat. Many of us in the minority feel Coach has plateaued, but accept that he is secure in his position for the remainder of his (lifetime) (lol) contract.
Short answer: Yes, I'd like for the Jays to bring home a BET trophy or 3...as our new trophy cases are empty.
