Marial Shayok Decommits from Marquette

Zags breaks down the recruitment of 4* SF Marial Shayok:

"One by one, the high-major head coaches are filing into Blair Academy to watch Marial Shayok work out. Yet Blair head coach Joe Mantegna believes two schools currently lead for the 6-foot-6 Canadian wing. “Marquette and Virginia are in there hard and they were in there early,” Mantegna told SNY.tv Wednesday afternoon in the Blair gym. “But Minnesota was in [Wednesday] and USC is in [Thursday] and Seton Hall’s in on Friday. And Boston College is in next week. And Coach [Ed] Cooley from Providence was in, so there may be other people certainly trying to close ground."

Check out Buzz Williams at work:

“[Coach Buzz Williams] was telling me more about the opportunity of coming to Marquette and how it could possibly make me a pro since they’ve gotten players not even in the top 100 to the NBA...Eight I believe and that played at my position, so he was saying I could possibly be the ninth one, so that was good.”

Now that's a helluva recruiting pitch!

Shayok's stock is rising. Will he wind up in the Big East or will Virginia or some other school beat us out...

Would absolutely love to have this kid. MU is getting a reputation as a school that helps kids get to the NBA (Wade, Novak, Matthews, Hayward, DJO, Butler, Lockett, Buycks). I hope we get the chance to help Shayok reach his dream as well. Hopefully Blue will be #9 yet, though.

Good luck to our conference mates too. If we can't land him, I hope one of you does.

Seems that the Heat are looking to possibly invite Blue to camp...good luck!

Yeah Vander has been tweeting that he was in Miami so I think he'll get an invite, even if it was just Wade doing him a solid.

I really would like to have Shayok, but I think I'd rather land Ahmed HIll. If we don't get him I hope SHU or Providence can pick him up. Always gotta pull for fellow BE teams.

Given Buzz's track record he could probably develop either into an all-BE player...

Congrats on a top ten class...with more coming!

Roundbal Rundown Report:
I don't think people understand just how good Marial Shayok really is. 1 of most versatile seniors. Big time get/major upside for Marquette

Scout's Mark Miller:

Marquette recruit Marial Shayok, who committed tonight, has a big-time upside and continues to grow. Closing in on 6'8".

Virginia. Funny that he decided to play against Buzz at VT's in-state ACC rival.
