3 updates from August 1:

ESPN - Way-Too-Early Top 25: St. John's is in; Tennessee dips
#5 UConn
#10 Marquette
#13 Creighton
#16 Villanova
#25 St. John's

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... l-rankings

FanDuel - ROTHSTEIN 45: 2023-24 PRESEASON EDITION
#6 Marquette
#7 UConn
#10 Creighton
#16 Villanova
#23 St. John's
---
#28 Xavier
#39 Providence

https://www.fanduel.com/research/rothst ... on-edition

CBS Sports - College basketball rankings: Kentucky's addition of 7-footer Zvonimir Ivisic bumps Wildcats up in Top 25 And 1
#6 Marquette
#8 UConn
#9 Creighton
#24 Villanova
---
#26 St. John's

Looking like we'll have at least 4, maybe 5 teams ranked preseason. Would be a record for the realigned Big East, which generally only has a couple teams ranked preseason.

A couple AP ballots are in! Ballots are due tomorrow October 10 and preseason rankings will be out October 17.

ESPN / Borzello:
#5 UConn
#7 Marquette
#9 Creighton
#13 Villanova
#25 St. John's

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... l-rankings

Asbury Park Press / Carino:
#5 Marquette
#6 Creighton
#9 UConn
#19 Villanova
#25 St. John's

https://www.app.com/story/sports/colleg ... 098587007/

We'll have at least 4, maybe 5 teams ranked. Also a very good chance at 3 top 10 teams. Would easily be our best AP preseason ranking.

Back in 2013. No one here (include myself) would've thought ESPN would come around this way. What a 180!!!

"In less than four weeks, we'll be poring over the first set of game results and no doubt jumping to all the wrong conclusions. But one assessment seems incontrovertible for the 2023-24 season: The Big East is loaded. Three teams -- defending champion UConn along with Marquette and Creighton -- have legitimate designs on an NCAA title. Villanova, the league's fourth-best squad, can point to a pair of national championships and a trio of No. 1 seeds in the past decade. In short, the Big East can dream of repeating its seemingly unrepeatable feat from 1985: a record three Final Four teams in the same year. It's an unlikely outcome, to be sure, but one that was unthinkable when the conference split from its football members in 2013. Yes, the headlines might proclaim a "football is king" narrative, but apparently the Big East folks didn't get the memo."

WOW….just, wow!! I will always despise ESPN but this is really surprising since they loathe to promote anything they’re not airing….

KenPom did preseason ratings from his subscribers. It's not a poll, it's a complicated pick'em exercise that he claims will ultimately be more meaningful than the AP ratings.

Big East ranked 2nd among conferences, had 3 teams in the top 10 (sorry about the huge image):

AP Top 25 is out today at noon. Will have 4 or 5 teams ranked- 3 top 10 teams (UConn, Marquette, Creighton) and Villanova. St. John's will be close, but probably just outside the rankings. Based on current ballots we are on 5/8 and have 8 points- which would translate to roughly 64 points. That'll probably put us around #27 based on previous years.
