I wonder what Jim Boeheim thinks about things tonight. This has to make him even more upset about things IMO.

Last time UConn and San Diego St played was 2011. Sweet 16 game. Some guys named Kimba Walker and Kawhi Leonard.

UConn is at the top of their game. They’ll win the national title after finishing 4th in the Big East and being eliminated from the BE tournament. They lost games this year to 6 other conference members, one of them twice.

So what does the way that UConn has blown through this tournament say about the conference? Not a single team in the rest of the country has been able to beat them, but they regularly took a drubbing when they ran the Big East gauntlet.

from Fanta:
From FOX Sports Research:

Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, UConn is now the sixth team to enter a national championship game appearance with 5 wins by double-digits. The list:

2023 UConn
2018 Villanova
2016 UNC
2009 UNC
2001 Duke
2000 Michigan State

So looking- only 2016 UNC of the 5 prior teams lost in the title game. And all of them won by double digits as well in the title game.

The Sporting News per Mike DeCourcy has identified 3 consistent characteristics of Final 4 teams over the past 30 years:

1. A first round NBA draft pick
2. A center taller than 6’7” (Michigan State ‘79 is the last champ with a 6’7” center.)
3. Finishing in the top 20 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. (This stat has only existed for the past 20 years.)

UConn is the only team in this year’s Final 4 with all three.

If they win, UConn will tie Duke for the second shortest length of time (25 years) to win 5 championships. UCLA did it in 6 years. LOL.
