Big East in the Olympics

Seton Hall has a pair of men's basketball alums, Patrik Auda (Czech Republic) and Aaron Geramipoor (Iran) representing in Tokyo. Anyone else have alumni (any sport) in the games this summer?

Auda just led the Czechs with 16 points in an opening win over his former teammate and Iran. Of course, with France and the US also in their group, it's unlikely either will advance.

Providence has Emily Sission '14 competing in the 10,000m run, after she won the event at the Olympic Trials. Apparently she's been living out in Arizona but has been back training with legendary coach Ray Treacy at PC for the last month in between Trials and Olympics. She was the top runner on the Friars 2013 National Championship women's cross country team.

Unrelated to Big East players, but the US Men's Basketball team (with Jay Wright) just lost 83-76 to France to open pool play in Tokyo.

Johnnies have 6 alums competing in the Olympics.

4 are in Fencing (which is oddly our most successful sports program). We also have Rachel Daly competing in women’s soccer for the U.K. (she plays for the Houston Dash in the NWSL) and Alex Katz who is competing for Israel in baseball.

Also, Mike Anderson’s daughter is competing for Serbia in basketball.

I didn't even know, college fencing was a thing. That's awesome!

Right?!? Pretty cool. Our coach is in his 6th Olympic Games. SJU grads won a silver and bronze in Rio in 2016.
