NCAA Proposal Says Transfers Will Be Immediately Eligible

This seems like pretty huge news:
Athletes can soon transfer schools and play immediately.
That’s according to proposed legislation sent to Division I Council members this week and obtained by Sports Illustrated. The Council is expected to introduce the proposal into the NCAA’s 2020–21 legislative cycle at its meeting Wednesday, with a vote coming in January for an effective date of Aug. 1, 2021.
Under the proposal developed by the NCAA Working Group on Transfers, athletes are afforded a one-time transfer during their athletic careers without suffering the penalty of sitting out a season, reversing a policy from the 1960s. Fall and winter sport athletes would have to notify their schools of a transfer by May 1, with an exception extending the date to July 1 for an end-of-the-year head coaching change or the non-renewal of scholarships

This is pretty interesting too from Jeff Goodman yesterday-
Division 1 Council expected to vote tomorrow on granting winter sports athletes an additional year of eligibility, per source.
Many of them won’t take advantage of it, but it makes complete sense.
If you could have one current senior return for a free “bonus” year of eligibility, who would you pick? I think it would be nice to have Mitch Ballock back. And heck, feels like CU should get Duke transfer Alex O’Connell eligible now and let him play two years instead of one.

Not a huge fan, but if the NCAA is arguing that athletics is effectively rec-ball then it makes no sense to impose transfer penalties.

I wonder if this ruling supersedes conference rules? If someone now wants to transfer from Georgetown to Butler, does this ruling now require immediate eligibility?

I hope it does. Rumor going around that Mamu now wants to travel down the NJ Turnpike to Philly to help VU capture banner #4. Not confirmed but "people are saying..."

According to Jeff Goodman:
“Sources: The basketball oversight committee expected to recommend that the NCAA allow ALL transfers to get waiver to play this season. This would be proposed to the D-1 Council — which next meets on Dec. 16. There is a chance it could be voted on prior to the 16th.
LONG OVERDUE”

Wondering the exact same thing. Also applies to Kunkel.

Kunkel hit a couple of big threes against UC. Nice addition to XU.
