Friars Fined $5k By The Conference For Storming Court...

The Friars have been fined $5,000 by the Big East for our fans storming the court on Saturday night. According to the article, the Big East outlawed court-storning two years ago.

Of course, the fans stormed before the game officially ended, cuz 0.2 seconds still remained after a foul at the buzzer. It took a few minutes to clear the court, then happened again a minute later.

Ridiculous and embarrassing that we'd storm at all, but the crowd was tipsy. Also i think the circumstances played a part, being up 34-10, then having the game basically tied with around 12 minutes still left. Then barely holding on. And the game was like 2 hours and 20 minutes ling, and the refs called 186 fouls.

Stormed the court after beating the no 10 team? Top 3 or just leave.

I'd take it a step further to say PC (as well as everyone else in our league) is too good to storm against anyone. The fine was unnecessary though.

Yeah, ideally, there would never be a court storm from a BE team because all the programs would be competitive enough where a huge upset would never occur.

Didn't Cooley say he would pay the fine?

Well yeah of course, in a perfect world. But if Depaul beats a top team, storm away.

Point is there's what should be vs acting like you've been there before. To my knowledge we've only stormed against #2 UConn and #1 Villanova.

Trying to think back... I'm not sure how many times an opponent has stormed the court after beating the Friars.

I don't remember if Brown stormed when we lost at the Pizzitola a few years ago. Ivy fans don't storm, do they?

Did URI rush the court the last couple of games in Kingston?

I vaguely remember BC may have stormed on us at the old Boston Garden in 87 after we cracked the "Top-20" for the first time in 9 years... last second win after they shoved Marty Conlon. I'm 83% sure that happened.

And i vaguely remember in maybe 77, Holy Cross beat us on a buzzer beater and the crowd stormed... i think... i was only 9... but that may have just been the way the game ended?

So maybe only 3 or 4 times max since i've been following PC hoops? Wow that's pretty weak.

I wonder which of us has been stormed the most?

The last one I can remember was the shootout in '99 when UC was #1

I have two guesses; the schools in Washington DC and Philadelphia

The three programs from mid-major conferences are likely all in the running for this. When you are a ranked team in the A10, Horizon, or Valley, there are plenty of opportunities to lose to bad teams on their home floor. And some of those times, a court-storming probably happens.

Weirdest storming in New England sports history was the Patriots clinching one of 8 playoff slots in the 1982 NFL split season. Coming off a 2-14 disaster in 1981, we finished maybe 5-4 under SMU's Ron Meyer by beating Buffalo in the last game of the season at old Schaefer Stadium.

Seemed like hundreds of dimwit Pats fans tore down the goalposts and carried one of them down Route 1... the idiots eventually touched them against electrical wires and got hurt bad... all to celebrate a 7-seed in the AFC, where they got hammered at Miami anyway.
