Top 25 - Getting & Staying Ranked (2019-2020)

Not sure if Adoraz is too busy to make weekly predictions this season, but I thought we'd keep the tradition going.

Should be interesting to see if DePaul and Xavier join SHU, Nova, and Butler in the polls next week. Marquette, Georgetown, and Creighton should be receiving votes as well.

For perspective this was last year's December 3rd poll:

Nova 21

Marquette also receiving votes 28
Creighton also receiving votes 31
SJU also receiving votes 32

Let's not get too ahead of things. Buffalo's not a wrecking ball, but I can tell you from UConn playing them earlier in the season that they're pretty solid, and beating Iowa State @ Iowa State after recently beating them in Atlantis will be tough for SHU. Sunday first, then Monday.

Was actually planning on making predictions tonight, after the results of the DePaul and Hall games. Both will be tough games.

That said, we may see 5 AP Top 25 teams tomorrow if DePaul wins. Hall I think would remain ranked with a loss, but it'd be close. Xavier's resume certainly deserves a ranking, but they might be kept out by too many Big East teams in the 15-25 range lol. Xavier never should have left the rankings to begin with. They're 9-1 with a 5 point neutral court loss to Florida, and were one of 3 Big East teams ranked in the pre-season.

Monster weekend for the league. The best part is that 4/5 of the teams who won't be ranked tomorrow (Marquette, Creighton, Georgetown, St. John's) won't be far off if they pull off an upset or two.

I should have worded it if they can end up joining SHU, Nova, and Butler. Not counting chickens before they hatch.

Marquette's resume looks better each day, I think they're being overlooked. Georgetown is interesting, and honestly deserves consideration in the top 25 as they ruined 3 perfect records, and none of them at home. For SJU, Vermont and ASU aren't bad losses yet. Beat Arizona and we're in serious business. I think Nova may be the only BE team that's looked worse than its ranking so far.

Looking forward to your prediction tonight!

Ah, now I remember why I didn't do predictions earlier- ESPN's Top 25 page no longer features the results from this week. That makes it a pain to go back and forth to each team page and see how they did. In the past I wouldn't need to leave the page, aside from checking to see how teams just outside the Top 25 did. Is anyone aware of a similar alternative to ESPN's setup last year? If not, I might still do it tonight if we win.

Well, crappy ending to a great week, but still a great week. Actually our AP teams won't be helped out as much as the bottom half of the conference (St. John's, Marquette, Georgetown, Creighton) who should pick up some votes but won't be ranked tomorrow.

Really quick predictions since it's late... not looking that closely at non-Big East teams who won or lost:
#17 Butler (up from #24): 2 great wins this week, and frankly deserve to be much higher
#20 Villanova (up from #23): 2 underrated wins that are great for the NET
#24 Seton Hall (down from #16): extremely tough schedule, but 3 losses is still 3 losses
#25 Xavier (up from #27): 2 more wins. never should have left the rankings to begin with

DePaul probably would have joined with a win, but overall only 1 loss this week for the 4 teams above them.
