Beilein To NBA Cleveland?

Just read the John Beilein is taking Cleveland Cavaliers job... Adrian Woj of ESPN tweeted it.

I don't think any Big East coach at this point makes sense to go to Michigan. Willard i guess could be on the list?

This is a bit of a shocker. Beilein is good. Recent health scare too, surprised he would leave a job he could retire at.

Biggest concern for nova fans is the 1 job, imo, Jay would leave for...the Sixers. Are they going to after him again? Hoping the recruiting class he had keeps him locked in.

If Brett Brown is fired, the 76ers gig starts looking like an undesirable one for the coaches looking to make the jump to the NBA for the first time. Make the finals or you're fired? I don't think Jay goes for that kind of immediate pressure cooker.

At some point, the current head coach of your program departs. No one stays in one place forever. Despite that guarantee, it always comes as a shock when a coach decides to take a new job elsewhere. I personally believe that Wright will inevitably go to another job (whether in college or in the NBA). I don't think Michigan is that place, however, and I don't think the current 76ers set-up is either. Who knows though.

Beilein taking the Cavs job is an incredible shock, however, just due to timing and opportunity. One would have thought that if was wanted-in to the the NBA, he would have grabbed the Pistons job last year. The Cavaliers, without LeBron, are a turn-stile for coaches, and regular lottery team. Will be fascinating to watch him navigate and adjust to the NBA game. History, however, isn't too kind for his outlook; Stevens and Donovan have "won" in the NBA, but have really failed to meet expectations with their respective organizations. Calipari, Pitino, Hoiberg, Floyd, Montgomery, Kruger, Theus and Carlesimo all really struggled adjusting to the NBA game; only Pitino, Floyd and Carlesimo ever got a second NBA opportunity (although Beilein's age probably will prevent that anyways).

Michigan should just promote Yaklich or Washington.

Can almost guarantee that Jordan from Butler will be a candidate as well.

now THIS is the type of job that would lure Billy Donovan back to college... A top 10-15 job.

Cooley, Willard & Jordan all mentioned by Andy Katz - but I got to think McDermott is on that list too.

And every single one of those coaches would be viewed as underwhelming hires to the Michigan fan base. I actually think the Big East is pretty safe on this search, as the only one that would realistically be under consideration would be Wright. Warde Manuel didn't exactly hit a home run with his hires at UConn either.
