The C7 and the NBE

Postby alduflux » Thu Apr 05, 2018 9:31 pm

I never followed the old Big East so this question is for the C7 members.

Are the C7 schools better off in the New Big East or the 06-13 version of the Old Big East? Why?

My question isn't if a school is better now or then, but rather which version of the conference has the best influence on each school to improve itself.

Old Big East. It has to do with geography, media, and rivalries.

It makes no sense to look back. I think most of the old big east teams rarely look back or mention the new league.

Georgetown-- Syracuse was a great game. UCONN-- Providence or St. John's were fun, big games.

As far as recruiting goes, the east coast schools are better off in the NBE because the old members like uconn, pitt, and boston college are in the gutter. But sadly only Nova has taken advantage of this.

It’s weird for Providence. The new conference has definitely benefited PC immensely. However, so has Ed Cooley. PC was pretty much awful in the 06-13 years with Tim Welsh and Keno Avis in charge. It’s tough to make an argument for or against the notion that PC would be competitive with Cooley if the old conference didn’t blow up. Who knows? Who cares? I love the way the Big East Conference is as it stands today; the best and toughest conference in the country!

Is this an actual question for Nova fans?

My face when I read OP's question:

MU in the old Big East: 8 straight NCAA tournament appearances, 3 second weekends, 2 big east titles. 3 annual sold out games against historical rivals Norte Dame, Louisville and Cincinnati

MU in the new Big East: 1 NCAA appearance 1 NIT appearance. No sold out games, desperately want Depaul to get back to prominence so we have a historical rival again.

I'd say we were better off in the old Big East.

It is interesting to see great programs like Marquette and Georgetown fall off without their OBE rivals. Makes you wonder how strong the program was to begin with if they can't sustain it on their own.

No program is too big to fail as good as things are for X right now remember even UNC had the Matt Doherty years. I can't speak for Georgetown but for us it was a horrible collection of transfers, early draft entry, coach change, and injuries that set us back that far.

I suppose the measure of strength of program though would be that in spite of it were still tied for 12th all time NCAA bids (11th for NCAA tournament invites)
