Marquette is strong. Their coach needs to put it together. I don’t think Buzz would have struggled this much.

The New Version. It was too easy to get buried under the weight of so many good programs. 16 teams with so many heavy weights made it hard to climb up from the bottom/middle.

IMO college basketball will never see a conference like the old BE again. The old BE had factors that will never be seen again, like the advent of ESPN and the NCAA going to 64 teams. Being on television for almost every game made the best players on the east coast want to play in the BE. It became a symbiotic relationship that flurished. That IMO is what created the monster of the old BE. The NBE as we know it is probably the best case scenario coming to fruition. At this point the NBE is in a great position to be very selective if and when they wish to add teams.

Thanks, nice article.

I agree, nice article. One mistake though... Villanova's 4 losses this year were vs St John's, Butler, Creighton and PROVIDENCE. That is all.

The new Big East has been great for Xavier. This past year we had sellouts for almost every game, most games were close except for Nova twice. But Nova gives us something to shoot for. After the way Nova handled us I knew BIG M was in trouble. Our cross town rival talks about the real big east , we love beating them more often then not. GO BIG EAST, AND LOOKOUT NOVA.

Obviously Nova is better now then in the OBE. The question (as it applies to Nova) is are they better because they are in the NBE? If they were in the OBE would they have a lesser team then they have now?

No... Nova gets the same recruits regardless of which BE. They might be a 2 seed vs a 1 seed but it's the same Nova.

Buzz took over for Tom Cream when things were already rolling for Marquette. Buzz a couple of times had MU in the newspapers a bit too much and it wasn't for W and L's.

As far as recruiting goes, the east coast schools are better off in the NBE because the old members like uconn, pitt, and boston college are in the gutter. But sadly only Nova has taken advantage of this.

I think 12 of Villanova's 13 scholarship players were from Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware or New Jersey. Brunson was from Chicago, but his dad who was born in Syracuse and played HS ball in Salem, Mass went to college at a Philly school. This year Swider is from Rhode Island (PC lost out on him but got Duke who was down to PC and Villanova and Reeves who was local and down to us and UConn), Slater is from the DC area, and Quinerly is from New Jersey. Wright's footprint is not national - nor does it need to be.

Plenty of players elsewhere for BE schools to go after.

The C7 (original sinners) are better off today than yesteryear. Today they all can sniff fresh air periodically, whereas before they were sniffing the gas of the teams in front of them...None were the
lead dogs and only a couple of them rose sufficiently in a given year to see daylight. They are all temporarily better off until Butler, Creighton, and X take permanent positions in the top 3, which should be occurring on schedule...
about 2018-19 season. ;) Back to the salt mines you C7 scumdogs, back I say. :P
