Providence-Seton Hall game postponed in second half due to floor conditions - The Dagger - February 22, 2018
Poor floor conditions at Dunkin Donuts Center resulted in the suspension of Wednesday night’s Providence vs. Seton Hall game.

The game, which was stopped with 13:03 remaining in the second half, will be resumed at noon Thursday at Alumni Hall, the home of the Providence women’s team. Seton Hall held a 56-47 lead when the game was halted.

The court was deemed “unplayable” because of moisture. Dunkin Donuts Center is also the home of the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Earlier in the game, several Seton Hall players slipped, including senior guard Desi Rodriguez, the team’s leading scorer. Rodriguez injured his ankle on the fall, which occurred in the first half, and did not return to the ballgame.

From the Providence Journal:
In the first half Seton Hall’s Desi Rodriguez slipped and hurt his ankle in front of the PC bench. He did not return. In the second half two more Pirates slipped and fell. That was apparently enough for Hall coach Kevin Willard. The three officials agreed with him and the game was suspended due to the unsafe conditions.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, only students and faculty will be allowed in the building when the game resumes Thursday.

Providence entered the game with a 17-10 (8-6 Big East) record while Seton Hall is 18-9 (7-7). Both teams are pretty firmly in the NCAA field as it currently stands, but a win in this one would be a boon for either’s resume.

This game could take a hard turn either way on one foul - a quick 4th on either Cartwright or Powell. Both guys need to play smart and know that the other team is likely to attack them. Cartwright is obviously essential to PC's offense and with Desi already out, the Pirates could struggle to score if they have to take Powell off the floor too.

Again, PC is getting a huge advantage by finishing the game on campus. Alumni Hall seats maybe 2k. Only students and teachers are allowed in. Seton Hall was controlling the game last night, had a 9 point lead, and i think would have won by a dozen.

Alumni Hall (Mullaney Gym) is hoops (and volleyball) only, and was renovated several years ago. The Friar women play there. The men opened this season there vs Houston Baptist cuz Comic Con was at the Dunk.

FYI, the PC mens and womens hockey teams play on campus at recently-renovated hockey-only Schneider Arena. Hockey at the Dunk is played by the Providence Bruins AHL hockey team (Boston's Triple-A team), not the hockey Friars.

PC pays good money to the Dunk in order to play mens hoops there. After last year's Marquette game, it blows my mind that the Dunk could screw things up again. Probably a case of the Dunk being cheapskates. Really bullsh-t deal.

Seton Hall last played at Alumni Hall, i think, on February 1st 1971. Friars won 79-67 in an NIT year. Ernie D was a soph.

important to say just how big this game is.... The winner probably clinches a spot in the tourney(esp if SH wins). The loser needs at least 1 more game- with Saturday games for both teams their 2nd most winnable of the 3 remaining games now much tougher due to the quick turn around.

I think I saw if Providence lost this game- they would fall down out of the top 50 in RPI.

Seton Hall is gonna take this one. I'm glad they are. It would've sucked to stay and extra day to lose the game. 84-77 with 40 seconds left

It's probably good that SHU won just to avoid the potential additional headaches for the Big East office/PC/Dunk if the game had turned on a dime when play restarted.

1 thing that's remarkable is that the guys reffing the game last night weren't scheduled to ref today anywhere so they were able to stick around and ref the resumed game today.
