sounds like he was trying to diminish fox sports more than BE. Fox has long way to go, but could espn be nervous about fox cutting into their ratings?

Meh, we are off-broadway. People need to stop getting their panties in a bunch over every comment.

That's cool - I'd rather Bluiett, Brunson and others not get the notoriety of Trae Young. ESPN's basically taken the joy of basketball away from him. Congrats on that I guess.

The Big East isn't going to get the ratings that the ACC, Big 12, SEC, etc. will because they don't have the alumni bases, outside of maybe St. John's and DePaul. That's fine, but by you not discussing other players and leagues who are good and people should look out for, all that does is show your ignorance and/or lack of credibility, not anything about the player himself or the league he's in.

"Off Broadway" should definitely be our new league slogan. Embrace the hate. Love it. And we are off Broadway... 34th and 7th is it?... at MSG.

Pretty sure ESPN, etc. will always pay the most attention to those who will bring the most viewers. In College Basketball, outside of the sports die hard fans, people tend to follow their alma matter, or the local progam that dominates their area. Traditionally, these power conferences have been the schools with the biggest enrollments, most alumni, and in many cases captive geographies who look at "State U" as their "professional" sports option. Even if our Big East footprints hit large media markets, MOST of our programs are not THE program in most of these cities due to the size of the school's and dynamics of a major metro /city. Creighton may be the one exception, and thats due to the small size of their market. Lets face it, we have programs competing at the highest levels, no question - but the nature of our schools is different than the others... and while that shouldn't impact the quality of play (and doesn't) it does impact how a media company looking to sell advertising and get viewers to aid their bottom line will view our conference. We'll always be "off Broadway" for this reason. And thats fine. We get respect from those who know the sport - demanding equality in a profit driven industry is another matter.

Have noticed a lot of references to Broadway in several BE game telecasts this weekend.

ESPN wants to cater to the gigantic football-centric schools which we are not. We are a major conference that only plays basketball as a group of smaller private schools in major metro areas. As if that were not a leap of faith, we are on FS1/FS2 which is brand new and most people still don't know exists. We are novel...we are not traditional and that's why no one really knows what to make of us. As someone who caught the tail-end of the old Big East, I remember ESPN's lovefest constantly raving about the conference and what a monster it was. Funny how that turns around immediately after the big football schools leave and we are off their channels.

The only critiques you can have about the conference at this point:

1) Let's be real...it has been Villanova and everyone else. Others are right on their tail, but no one can dethrone them.

2) We have programs in some of the biggest cities in America i.e. DePaul, G'Town, St. John's who have not been truly nationally-relevant on a regular basis in 10, 20, 30 years. At least from my perspective I know for a fact SJ would be getting tons of hype if we were truly nationally-relevant in the top 25 every year. The Knicks are never going to be good and they sellout every game. That should give you an indication. This would be a completely different conference if SJ and G'Town were in the top 25 at the same time every year to join Nova and others.

3) We will almost never have many top 25 teams since we beat up on each other and the conference is too strong from top to bottom. In the ACC, B1G, Big 12, etc. there's a soft underbelly to feed the top teams and keep them all ranked. We don't have that. Thus, good teams like Seton Hall, Creighton, Butler, etc. aren't ranked.

4) In March Madness, we don't get enough teams deep. Simple as that.

Let's be real, we will never have the resources state football schools have and we will never have the size. That's why it's so important that we harness the power of our major markets. To do that we need SJ and G'Town in the thick of things. I know everyone can't be good at the same time, but to me (and yes I have bias), without those 2 programs playing well, this conference will never reach its true potential.

I don't know why people got worked up about this. Saying that the Big East is 'off Broadway', implies that ESPN IS 'Broadway.'

You are just supposed to roll your eyes and that kind of self-congratulation, not get offended by it.

It's a clown show. ESPN definitely is feeling the heat, especially with the way big FOX is positioned now on Saturdays with the Big East and Big Ten games.
