Porter Moser to DePaul?

Not sure if DePaul still exist around here, and I don't seem to recall anyone calling for a coaching change, but Moser really has Loyola rolling along, turned around Illinois State as well. Dude can recruit, coach and get fans excited.

Thoughts?

His Illinois State record was 51-67... hardly turned them around. He's a mid major coach. Two good seasons out of 14 at three different schools. I suppose Depaul could do worse and arguably has but I wouldn't take him without a bit more proof he's turned the corner as a coach

Porter Moser has a long Wikipedia page.

Brian Wardle at Bradley has had a steadily improving record.

Does the Missouri Valley have a good history of developing coaches?

Is that a serious question? Hank Iba, Eddie Hickey, Ralph Miller, Denny Crum, Nolan Richardson, Rudy Washington, Tubby Smith, Dana Altman, Bruce Weber, Matt Painter, Mark Turgeon, Greggggg Marshall, McDermott, Helmet-head (Steve Alford), to name some.

Was thinking more recently than Nolan Richardson. But yes, Altman, Marshall, McDermott, Painter, as you mentioned, are all good examples.

I remember just a little bit about old Valley history. Dick Versace at Bradley. Early 80's Richardson won the NIT over Boeheim. Plus Xavier McDaniel and Benoit Benjamin were nationally known. I have mentioned Cheese Johnson in the past, but no one here really runs with it.

Hey, I remember Cheese Johnson! He was an archvillain when Creighton rejoined the Valley in the '70s. We won the title our first year back by beating Larry Bird and Indiana State (year before they went to the NCAA final). Then we blew an 18-point lead to DePaul in the NCAA, I think.

The Valley had a chance to be what the Big East became. At various times, members included Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, SLU and Tulsa but the league never put itself together to the point where it could stop losing members to upstart leagues after the era of independents went away.

Porter doesn't have the family connections at DePaul, nor the last name.

I hope that if/when the time comes, DePaul aims a little higher than a coach whose career record is barely over .500 some 14 years into his career.

Wainwright and Purnell were the DePaul coaches for about 5 years each. Leitao is now in year 3.
