1) Marquette was a top program long before joining the BE. IMO they sustained what they already had. That is different from the 3 newbies...we are building with the BE brand.

2) you want DePaul, Marquette, StJ, and Gtwn "back"? okay.

Possible look-

Gtwn 26-5 / 16-2
Marq 24-6 / 15-3
Nova 24-6/ 15-3
StJ 23-7/ 13-5
X 23-7/ 12-6
DeP 22-9/ 11-7
-------------------------
But / 6-12
Crei/ 5-13
Prov/ 4-14
SH/ 3-15

For the old power to rise, the wins gotta come from somewhere...they come from the mid and top tiers. It ain't rocket science.
You want the old teams strong again...the bottom 4 become the "new" underclass. the top 2 tiers rotate their positions from time to time. Butler and Creighton get relegated to the bottom tier, and promising recent teams Hall and Prov go back to their former status in the old BE. Without new blood, these 4 would remain the bottom indefinitely.

Yes, 1 or 2 of the top six may "slump" from time to time, giving the possibility of 1 of the bottom feeders to temporarily rise. How often did that happen in the former BE?

Fortunately it ain't gonna happen. Maybe 1 or 2 recover but not all 4. Let's say StJ rises, going from 6 to 15 wins. Those additional 9 wins come from the middle and top, dropping the Nova's, X's, Creig's, But's, Prov's, SH's numbers, the bottom stands fast, continuing to feed the rest.

Sacrificial lambs- that's what DePaul (11-13 years worth), StJ, Marquette, and Gtwn are today. That's what SH and Prov used to be. Everybody can't be 13-5 in conference.
Nova couldn't win 4 straight titles without the doormats (and a middlin middle tier).

In your bloodbath...Everyone ends up 12-6 thru 7-11? Everyone is in the middle, no one gets ranked?

With that logic why didn’t the C7 add SLU, LaSalle and Richmond to the BE instead of X, BU and CU?
Answer: They should have. All the C7 would dance annually if they had.

Your standings mathematically wouldn't be possible. Top 6 teams would have a combined 82 wins. Considering there are 90 games total for the season, that's just not possible. You have 100 wins and 80 losses as a league. Somewhere you have to flip 10 wins and make them losses. That makes a huge difference.

PC has always been about coaching.....

Joe Mullaney 2.0 - Bad
Pitino - Great
Chiesa - Terrible
Barnes - Very good
Gillen - Very good
Welsh - Mediocre to Bad
Keno - Terrible
Cooley - Very Good

I feel pretty good that as long as Cooley is at PC we will be an upper half BE team regardless of what everyone else does.

Piling up wins against conference bottom feeders is of no more value than beating cupcakes in the non-conference season . . . .

UNLESS

. . . those bottom feeders are good enough to build up their own power ratings by beating quality teams OOC. St John’s is a great asset to have at the bottom of the conference standings this year. Their OOC wins have boosted the RPIs of every other team in the conference. Adding the Bonnies or LaSalle or any other such program mentioned in this thread would not accomplish that.

If the BE finds it necessary to expand, they should only do so by considering quality programs.

18 games...

Nova 15-3
Xav 14-4
Those 27 wins come from everyone below them, with maybe a split between the 2 teams-

Prov and SH rose due to coaching AND less better teams above them...no S'cuse, Pitt, L'ville, UConn, others. Now only Nova and Xavier above them in a given year.
Gumby, my man. You want DePaul back AND for Nova to stay in the top 2...same as I want StJ back ANd for the Jays to stay in the top 4.

Look at what the bottom 3 are doing lately - reeking havok on the 3-7 teams...even Nova and X have taken a couple of hits. If Depaul- StJ- Gtw
n where firing on all cylinders, and were rising to the top, this would merely be the beginning of the carnage. The current middle would become the new bottom.

You guys are wwwaaayyyyy off base here. It’s a losers mentality. Instead of demanding more of your own program and earning your success, you’d prefer for others to wallow in mediocrity so you can feel better about yourself? No thanks.

Let’s look at TCU in the B12. Before Dixon they struggled. Now they seem to on a better course. They’re winning games OOC, they’re pushing conference mates to be focused and sharp. You think it’s better for B12 success for them to just roll over? Nonsense. You think SJU hurt Nova long term with that win? Not in the least. It exposed weakness and gave JW more things to work on. We prob don’t win at X without the lessons learned vs SJU and PC. I am 100% convinced that had SHU not knocked us off in the BET Championship we would not have won the NC.

You seemingly don’t understand the importance of a strong conference slate for March success. You need the conference to sharpen your skills and to test your mettle. If SJU and DePaul went undefeated in OOC, would that be a good or bad thing? Would they not be 4 more top tier games on your schedule? I would absolutely prefer Nova finishing 12-6 in conference if the league had 10 teams in the top 50 instead of 5 teams and finishing 16-2. UConn finished in 8th place as a .500 team one year in the BE and won the NC. They were hardened and tested because they played a dozen games that year versus teams that had a legit shot at a FF. That’s what we need. Please, please, please, let’s not settle for mediocrity anywhere in this conference.

Git, no offense but you’re starting to sound like you miss the old days where CU had one tough conference game and then skated into the tourney. As fun as those 25+ win seasons were, they never got you closer to the FF than you are today.
Go Nova!

Teams will still get plenty of quad 1 opportunities. We're talking difference of +/- 2 between the toughest and the weakest schedule. Although it's doesn't happen all the time, B1G with 14 teams is likely to have wider difference.

Same. Competition is healthy. Can't avoid having teams fall to the bottom due to injuries (St. John's) or uneven departures/incoming talent (Seton Hall?), but having ten sound programs is preferable to beating up on same bottom teams year after year.

Nonsense. Creighton, X, and Buter caught Georgetown sleeping. 3 weaker programs wouldn't have changed the outcome.

This is devastating for Louisville. Isn't AAC receiving much of the tourney credits earned by Louisville?

I don't know where the law of diminishing returns begins, but it should be noted that larger conferences get more exposure simply by having more teams to talk about.
