(3) BE Games - Friday Dec 22nd 2017...

Postby billyjack » Fri Dec 22, 2017 10:52 am

Three Big East teams playing tonight...

Friday Dec 22nd 2017:
Sacred Heart at Providence, 6:30pm.
#1 Villanova vs Hofstra, 8:30pm, at Uniondale NY (near Hofstra).
#9 Xavier at Northern Iowa, 9pm
.

Tough game for #9 Xavier on the road. Not sure of the background on why this was scheduled. XU is a little banged up.

#1 Villanova playing a virtual road game at Hofstra, which was Jay Wright's first head-coaching gig.

Providence... whoo boy... never thought i'd be terrified of playing at home against Sacred Heart, the fourth best program in the city of Fairfield, Conn, behind the Fairfield Stags, Fairfield Prep, and Saint Thomas Aquinas Elementary School. Hope PC can stay within 10 at the under 8 timeout.

Looking at Sacred Heart's roster, their best 3-point shooter is under 33% from deep. The Friars are stumbling towards the non-conf finish line. After how terribly they've played, a 9-4 mark would be ok. Losses: home to Minnesota, at URI, at UMass, neutral Houston. Wins vs neutral Washington, home Boston College, home Belmont.

Good news is PC's RPI is still somehow at 56.

I’m sorry Billy I’m glad to see you guys limping into our game on the 28th. The more conference wins the better!

The Nova/Hofstra game is at the Nassau Coliseum, capacity 17k+. Everything I've heard and read, suggests this is pretty much going to be a home game for Villanova. Lots of Nova grads in Long Island/NYC area. Hofstra averages less than 1650 for home games, game is pretty close to sold out.

Renovated capacity is actually a little more than 13000... Still impressive nonetheless if they sold out at Nassau.

Upper bowl looks empty on TV.

Yeah doesn't look close to being sold out, my bad, pure speculation based on a quick view of resale sites. Still Nova logo on floor and pretty sure they controlled ticket distribution. BTW Nova up 73 - 53 with near 10 min left in 2nd half.

X has never been afraid to schedule up. RPI now 2. Nice Roadkill which will look great in March.

The home and home arrangement with Northern Iowa was a residual effect of the last-minute scheduling change with the Gavitt games last season. When Xavier didn’t have the expected home game versus Wisconsin, UNI stepped in.
