If you look at the list of schools with serious cheating scandals its almost a whos who of College basketball. UNC and Louisville pretty much ignored the rules altogether and both programs seem better off for it.

No way - I'd say a scandal like Louisville's would almost completely kill any current Big East programs except maybe Georgetown or Villanova.

Is there any evidence that these scandals actually hurt? Aside from SMU in the 80's, it seems the benefits far outweigh the costs.

You had it right at NO WAY.

I can't imagine any Big East school going down this road.

If you want to take this position as an individual and general fan of the sport, so be it, but do some of us a favor and remove yourself from affiliating with Xavier. Xavier will never go down this road. Xavier fans shouldn't be giving the idea any support.

Cheating got Louisville from CUSA to the ACC. Who cares about the sanctions for a few years once you get a seat at the big boy table or make yourself a household name like Miami in the 80's & 90's.

Certainly not. UCLA had Sam Gilbert paying players for years and all they ended up with were 10 national championships. No student at NC has gone to class since the Truman administration and all they have to show for it is 25 elite eight appearances. Kentucky has won eight national championships under such moral exemplars as Adolph Rupp (not a racist), Eddie Sutton (not a bag man), Rick Pitino (not a madame) and John Calipari (not a scum bag). Much better to play the game right and fail than cheat and succeed. As noted ethicist Rupert Pupkin noted, better schmuck for a lifetime than king for a day.

NCAA: Infractions panel could not conclude academic violations in North Carolina case

Such a joke, NCAA is useless.
