The Great Alaska Shootout is ending after 2017:

As most of you know, The Shootout used to be a great tourney with top level schools competing. The equivalent of the Maui Classic. Recently, the teams have been a notch below. Thanksgiving weekend i would stay up and catch a bunch of the games, listen to Pete Gillen, and have midnight snacks of turkey and squash. Crowds at the games looked pretty thin.

Anyway, sorry to see it end.

I think to call the teams just a notch below is really kind. I mean this year- Cal Poly, Central Michigan, College of Charleston, CSU Bakersfield, Idaho, Sam Houston State and Santa Clara joining the host Seawolves

considering 10 years ago- Butler, Michigan, Eastern Washington, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, Alaska Anchorage, Western Kentucky, and Gonzaga. That's far more than just 1 notch gap.

I generally dislike the proliferation of MTEs. It takes the best non-con games out of home-home series and the fans who buy season tickets don't get to see these opponents play in their gyms.
