Butler holds onto Christian David, sets meeting with Kyle Young - David Woods, Indianapolis Star – June 19, 2017
INDIANAPOLIS – Four down. One to go.
Christian David is keeping his commitment to Butler, a source told IndyStar late Sunday night. That means four-fifths of the highest-rated basketball recruiting class in school history is on board.
New coach LaVall Jordan is to meet this week with Kyle Young of Massillon, Ohio, perhaps Monday, another source said. David is a 6-7 forward who played high school basketball for Vermont Academy. He averaged 11.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists last season, shooting 52 percent from the field and 81 percent on free throws.
Once rated the top high school prospect in Canada, he was not at full strength after going down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament March 6, 2016. David’s wingspan has been measured at 6-10, or three inches more than his height.
Incoming freshmen customarily enroll for the second session of summer classes, which begin June 26.
Young, the prize recruit of the Bulldogs' class, chose them over Ohio State. He would have to be released from his Butler commitment to switch to Ohio State, although schools customarily grant such releases. Young was recruited by Chris Holtmann, who left Butler to become Ohio State coach.
