What fans? Would you say SEC fans don't care? Or Big 12 fans for that matter?

The optics of being a major conference includes being competitive during most every season of competition.

LSU, NCAA attendance leader for 20+ years, averaged about 10,000 fans a game for baseball and 101,000 for football. Enrollment is about 31,000.

Texas is usually the biggest draw in the Big 12, and they don't get 5k per baseball game. They get 98,000 to football games. Enrollment is about 50,000.

So yes, I would say that most fans don't really care. Those are huge state schools that draw huge numbers for football, and only a small fraction of that number for baseball even though they are national championship caliber programs (in 2010, South Carolina won the national championship and averaged 6,700 fans a game).

Think broader.

We've entered the world of conference networks. You don't think the Longhorn Network gets any mileage from Longhorn baseball and their tradition?

College sports media is evolving and Olympic sports content is becoming more pronounced.

To live an die on being relevant in one sport is not big time. Writing off WBB and baseball is tantamount to chopping an arm off in this day and age.

Think what you want to think though bro.

Yeah, let's invest a ton of energy into sports we don't care about. And we'll do it using the template of one of the biggest a-hole football schools in the country, which lives in the most dysfunctional conference in the country, which is located 2000+ miles from New York. Good advice.

Next step, the Big East should throw $5 million each towards the best coaches of squash and crew and the discus and the javelin why not... find some talented Serbian or Hungarian or Moldovan coaches... this will help us diversify away from men's hoops so we can focus on sports that no one cares about.

No wonder your American conference is struggling... chasing its tail... with no center or hub or unified mission.

This Longhorn network, bro?

This article is a year old, before ESPN jettisoned talent. ESPN is losing its ass on the Longhorn network. We'll see how 'long' those 'horns' are once the Mouse gets tired of eating millions because of this network.

I guess they should just air more Texas baseball games and it'd all be good, bro.

I like this trend of hiring from within.

James Howard Named Georgetown Women’s Basketball Head Coach http://dlvr.it/PMJMNf

Howard served as the associate head coach of the Hoyas for the past two seasons and brings more than 30 years of college basketball experience, including a season (1998-99) as an assistant on the Hilltop.

We're definitely seeing a pattern in the NBE.

After Cincinnati poaches Googins from Xavier, Xavier ALSO responds by promoting an assistant.

YOUR NEW HEAD BASEBALL COACH AT XAVIER IS... Billy O'Conner!

We have sections for your continued ramblings. They are called BIG EAST MEN's SPORTS and BIG EAST WOMEN's ATHLETICS not the BIG EAST BASKETBALL BOARD. And get a clue with your NBE BS, nobody refers to the BIG EAST as the NBE anymore except A-10 fans cuz they never got in. Assuming you are one of them since you only post OT crap on this BASKETBALL board. Go Away!

Thank you!

TBH, I now OFICIALLY ENDORSE the proposition that every Big East school should ditch football.

As a Georgetown fan, I shook my head yesterday about losing a dumb football game to Princeton 30-50.

None of us get anything from football. All it does is bloat our athletic department costs and take away from the main driver of Big East revenue. Basketball!

Why are any of us even sticking our toes in the water with football? It makes no sense. And with the CTE issue, Big East schools can now get out ahead of the curve by condemning the national focus on that sport, at the expense of the health of our athletes. Aaron Hernandez's brain test results were a tipping point, IMO.

Georegtown doesn't need football! NOVA doesn't need football! Nothing good comes of this association at this point.

The Big East has an opportunity to separate itself (distinguish itself) from the pack... Remove itself from a financial burden... and allocate more dough in everyone's recruiting budgets by sinking football to the depths of the Potomac.

This could be the move that buttresses basketball to a clear #1. We shouldn't be afraid of divesting in this losing endeavor. Put that money to better use in bball, LAX, etc. Make the Big East brand a symbol for protecting the health of our athletes. Make the Big East brand the anthesis of big $ sports (football) run amok.

Big news in LAX. The Big East splits.

The Big East schools split with the AAC/SEC schools to form 2 separate Women's LAX conferences.

On the Big East side are: GEORGETOWN, Butler, Marquette, Villanova, Denver, ODU
