what's so bad about the schedule is that all but 1 are at home...

so if Georgetown goes 9-2 with losses to Syracuse and Richmond- their RPI record would be only 5.4-2.0. Just 1 bad loss would push the record to 4.8-3.4.

Even with a depleted roster and a rebuild on the horizon, Georgetown should win a majority of those games. It is very possible that they are 9-2 or 10-1 entering Big East play. The problem will be if/when they beat anyone in conference, because that will harm the league's RPI. If Georgetown can somehow upset Syracuse, as unlikely it will be with their roster this year, then it all becomes moot.

Do I think Georgetown will finish in 9th or 10th place in the Big East? Yes, I do. But, their talent isn't so bad to where they have to play this type of schedule. I also don't wanna hear some crap about this is Ewing's first season ever as a head coach.

This is a very, horrible schedule, and even more reason for me to wish they get their butts handed to them this upcoming season. Don't fool yourselves (Hoya fans) to believe this is what Ewing wanted in a schedule. This schedule smells like John Thompson's name is written all over it.

to go even further...

Say Georgetown goes 4-5 at home and 0-9 on road in BE play.... Going 9-2 in OOC play....
makes actual record 13-16. You think pretty decent. .448 winning percentage. But RPI actual record would be 7.8-14.4. A .351 winning percentage. And BE teams would all be adding that to 50% of their RPI's.

To put in comparison.... the year that St John's was so bad- 7-24. RPI record was only 4.2-25.4. Looking at OOC, St John's was 6-6 actual that year in OOC play. RPI wise though only 3.6-6.4... St John's had 3 bad losses that year- 1 road(@ Fordham) 2 home(NJIT, Incarnate Word). They win those games- RPI record would have been 6.2-3. .674. Georgetown with no bad losses would be 5.4-2. .730.

I think what Georgetown did is probably best case scenario for RPI's of other teams.

That's a lot of buy games. The Hoyas must have deep pockets.

Wow. That may already be a -1 to the Big East's tourney bid potential just for everyone having to play Georgetown twice. And subtract another for every OOC games they lose (other than Richmond or Cuse) and Big East game they win.

My guess is Georgetown has plenty of money for buy games. That said, those are some of the cheaper buy games you can get but they won't generate much revenue through attendance.

I actually think this is exactly what Ewing wanted in a schedule, which should terrify Georgetown fans. If anything, the only game on here that has JT3's fingerprints on it is the game at Richmond (which is part of a home & home) - Richmond's coach is Chris Mooney, another former Princeton assistant like JT3.

Here's a quote from Ewing about a month ago:

“The Big East schedule is going to be tough enough to handle,” Ewing said in a meeting last month with Washington Post reporters and editors. “It’s always been tough. It was tough when I was playing. So, you know, you don’t have to play the toughest nonconference schedule. It’s all about where you end up at the end. . . . Do the best job that we can in the Big East and let the chips fall where they may. And hopefully we’ll be able to be in the NCAAs and do our work there.”

And again, regarding the decision to drop out of the PK80:

A big part of the decision to not play at PK80 is that Ewing doesn’t feel the need to go against the country’s toughest programs in his first year on the job, when the spotlight will arguably be brightest.

“It’s my belief that, why go out there and get my a— kicked to show my recruits that we need their help when I can stay home and watch other people get their butts kicked,” Ewing said. “Do my recruiting, keep on telling the people we need that we need them, recruit them and do my job to help my team, build them up and show them what my visions are of them and win as many games as we can.”

Those quotes came before this schedule was released too, so it's pretty clear to me that this schedule is a reflection of Ewing's philosophy. Which, as a fan of college basketball in general, is disappointing.
