"Georgetown’s licensing contract with Nike expired on Dec. 31, and the university and apparel company continue to negotiate a new agreement just weeks after a student protest led to the university verbally agreeing to ask Nike to allow third-party monitoring group the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) independent access to its factories. Eight students who spent the night in University President John DeGioia’s office during the sit-in also received an email Jan. 3 informing them of a mandatory meeting with the Office of Student Conduct.

In a statement, Cal Watson, chair of the Licensing Oversight Committee (LOC), said the university wants the new contract to include independent monitoring of and reporting from the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) on Nike factories where Georgetown apparel is produced. The university has also asked that Nike adhere to the principles of its licensee Code of Conduct, which asks companies using the Georgetown brand to conduct their business in a socially responsible way “consistent with its Jesuit tradition.”

Nike is the only university licensee that has not signed the code of conduct."

sounds very reasonable doesn't it?

Thompson is still listed as an investor in Nike. If Georgetown was going to move away from Nike/Thompson, then they wouldn't have hired someone with his circle (not to mention getting Ronny Thompson a spot on staff). I think this story was/is irrelevant to why they dropped out of PK80.

Alabama A&M had the worst RPI in all of the NCAA's last season. I know every, high-major team will play some patsies, and Alabama A&M may have been added to Georgetown's schedule even if the Hoyas didn't back out of the PK80 Tournament. But, if this was a team added to their schedule, as a game for cowering out of the PK80 Tournament, then shame on them.

Yeah, I know they wasn't gonna back out of the PK80 Tournament and then add Duke, UCLA, Louisville, Purdue, or similar teams to their schedule. But, I'm curious if Alabama A&M came into play after backing out of the PK80 Tournament.

By the way, some of the Georgetown fan's on one of their team sites are making every, excuse why it was good for the Hoyas to renege on playing in the PK80. There aren't any excuses. They act like they're about to suit up a team full of walk-on's littered with a handful of one and two-star caliber players. St. John's situation was worse when Mullin came aboard, and they didn't cower out of participating in the Maui. Mullin could've easily backed out of it, once he took the helm at St. John's. They got hammered by Vanderbilt in the first game, played Indiana tough in the second game, and then beat Chaminade (D2 school, of course, but they have had their share of upsets in the Maui) in their last game.

Georgetown and Ewing easily has two times more talent than St. John's and Mullin when he came aboard. There aren't any excuses and nor was it a good move on part of Georgetown to remove themselves from the PK80. The posters who continue to give excuses and passes are nothing more than enablers and apologists.

Georgetown would've played Michigan State, and probably would've ended up playing UConn in the loser's bracket and then, possibly, Portland for the last place game.
Although, you never know, as they could be capable of beating UConn.

What's gonna be the case, if Georgetown gets hammered in conference play? Are they gonna cancel games against the upper-echelon of the Big East? Of course, I'm joking around. Regardless, it was a wimp move.

Nova just confirmed their home game (Big 5) against Penn will NOT be at the Palestra (Penn's home court) nor at the Wells Fargo Center, but rather the Jake Nevin Field house on Nova's campus. That's where the home games were prior to the Pavilion. Atmosphere will be crazy, really small venue.... pretty interesting choice.

Obviously not relevant for 2017-18, but Coach Cooley had this to say about a potential renewal of the rivalry with UConn. Would be GREAT to have this happen again. During the last 10 years or so of the old Big East, PC would consistently beat UConn home and away, even when we were terrible and they were great. Love Cooley throwing shade on UConn's football dreams...

"Kevin [Ollie] and I both talk about it [restarting the PC/UConn game]. It has to be the right fit. We’re both trying to create some space in our schedule for it to happen…This is what happens in business…Unfortunately the amount of money that University of Connecticut has put into football has put their basketball situation in a tough spot.”
