Understand that, but I'd rather have it where you have a great game this year for sure- with a year left to get a good home game for the 18-19 season if no Gavitt game materializes- vs having no good home games for sure this year and then maybe only 1 for the next season(if they don't get a Gavitt game).

I see what you're saying. Then there's also the matter of which school has the leverage to get what they want? In terms of Gonzaga-Creighton, I'm not really sure. Gonzaga has the recent success and brand recognition, but Creighton has the conference affiliation and all of the associated benefits - including less pressure to build a strong OOC schedule.

For example, in negotiating the Seton Hall - Louisville game, Louisville had all of bargaining power. Slick Rick had (understandably) had no interest in playing this year's Pirates team in New Jersey, so the Hall is traveling to Louisville and getting a return game next year when they'll have a considerably younger (and presumably weaker) team. Would it have been better for SHU to play at home this year? Of course - but that was never on the table, it was play away or don't play at all. Some believe the Pirates were lucky to get a return game from Louisville at all and it was just Pitino doing Willard a favor.

Now I don't see Gonzaga having the type of leverage over Creighton that Louisville has of Seton Hall, but perhaps the Jays playing away first was just the only way that deal was going to get done. Or it could have been something like a scheduling conflict at C-Link this year for their only mutual open date. There's a number of things that could have gone into determining who got the first home game.

Yeah a fair point about the leverage. Only thing I'd argue is that pretty much all teams have to build strong OOC schedules now. So, while yeah Gonzaga needs the OOC more than Creighton does, but Creighton absolutely needs the good OOC games as well. They learned that a few years ago where they were 18-14 and had absolutely zero shot at making the tourney due to a poor OOC schedule. Or Marquette who was 20-13 but didn't even make the NIT. Teams have to schedule a whole lot stronger now than they used to in the OOC. Used to be you saw teams schedule cupcake after cupcake. Can't any longer.

Agreed. And looking at the rest of Creighton's OOC schedule, it looks like they really needed to get this Gonzaga game to happen for SOS purposes (not sure what other prospects they had). Perhaps that gave Gonzaga the necessary leverage to get it played at home.

Great point.....

The Northwestern game should be really good(boy, it felt weird typing that), and the CBE should be as well. But outside of that? Not much at all.

Creighton may still get in trouble if Northwestern struggles and if Gonzaga takes an unexpected step back after losing a lot last year. And if Nebraska is well, Nebraska.

You would think there would be at least 1 more game in that. Right now, only 11 games- normally you see at least 12 games, if not 13. If Maui gives them at least 2 good games, will be a really good OOC schedule. Got Purdue and Wisconsin who both are normally of course really good. Then Georgia isn't bad. You would think that Marquette would be like a 4 seed if you would for the Maui tourney(I know they don't really have seeds, but the tourneys try to set up for good matchups. Would think you'd have Michigan and Notre Dame on separate sides of the bracket. Then would think you'd have Marquette and Wichita on either side with those 2. I think that would be their ideal final 4- say Michigan v Marquette and Notre Dame vs Wichita.

Henry Froling will, apparently, be eligible to play on 12/18 against Northern Illinois, since the semester will have ended by that point and grades will be submitted. Tough that he will miss the Wisconsin game, but at least we have him for Big East play.

Hey Westy, Does Nova play 2 or 3 in the Battle for Atlantis?

Gonzaga should be a great early season "marking the bar" game. 2 or 3 BE opponents for the Zags.
