Thanks for the link. I went on to read the article about Gonzaga, describing who St. Aloysius Gonzaga was. Very moving.
I despise the current North Carolina program. Their coach embodies everything that's wrong with athletics at what is otherwise a public Ivy. Describing the academic scandal involving his student athletes as "a pain in the butt", he is one of the most disingenuous people in college sports. This is the man who will cry a river of tears when his team loses, but without a nod to the other team. This is the man who manufactures excuses for his losses and blames refs without giving any credit to the opponent.
Give me the class of a Jay Wright or a Louie Carnesecca any day of the week. When asked for explanations when his team lost a game, Lou, ever the gentleman, would invariably respond with, "Hey, fellas, give a little credit to the other guys." We saw a similar response from Jay Wright when his team was eliminated this year, explaining that the other guys played a great game. Those are my kind of coaches. That's one of the Big East traditions that I value the most, going back to Dave Gavitt, as classy a guy as the sport has ever seen.
