I'd still feel pretty good if we had 2 teams make the 2nd weekend, as long as one is Nova.

I like Creighton's and Xavier's path for a Sweet 16 too. And in Xavier's case, familiarity with actually doing it always helps. Teams that aren't used to playing in the Tournament get wide eyes a lot of times

Nova with Wisconsin likely in rd 2.
Providence with USC, SMU, and Baylor- in Tulsa
Marquette with South Carolina and Duke- in Greenville
Xavier with Maryland and Florida St- in Orlando
Creighton with Rhode Island and Oregon- in Sacramento
Seton Hall with Arkansas and UNC- in Greenville
Butler with Minnesota likely in rd 2.

Nova and Butler I like their chances- though Nova got as tough of an 8 as we've seen in a while. I wouldn't say 3 is a failure as with where seeded, 2 is what is expected.

Butler should be favored in both their games. So that means all we need is 1 team of 5 to get an upset to make 3 sweet 16 teams. I don't think that is too much to ask.

For Marquette, Creighton, and Seton Hall- those would be huge upsets. Providence has a brutal week to get in the sweet 16. And Xavier has 2 pretty tough games themselves. I think the best case would be Nova, Butler, and Xavier.

The thing with this year is the league if it's just Nova and Butler making the sweet 16, folks will give the league a pass a lot more than before because of Nova last year of course, but also the injuries.

After the first full day of action, the Big East has secured 10 units already. Let's make it 13 tomorrow.

Creighton would absolutely not be a huge upset. Sagarin has Oregon favored by only -2.8 in that game. Frankly with Chris Boucher out of the Ducks' lineup, Creighton should be favored.

Why would any league need a pass for getting 2 teams to the Sweet 16?

Even if the Power 6 got all 16 spots in that round, the Big East with 10 of the 75 teams in those 6 leagues, would only be expected to get 2 spots.

After today, would it be safe to suggest that we should reduce our expectations?

For me definitely yes. Max possible now is 19, and that's if Nova, Xavier, and Butler all make the Final Four. lol

A modest result of elite 8 for Nova, sweet 16 for Butler, and Xavier losing tomorrow is 13 units, which is more than last year's record of 12. So that's still something to shoot for...

Pray that the pendulum swings hard in the other direction and we go 3-0 today.
