The Big East has been hearing for years that after a grinding season and BE tourny the teams are too tired for the NCAAs. It's nonsense. In 2011, UCONN won five games in five days beating DePaul, #22 Georgetown, #3 Pittsburgh, #11 Syracuse and #14 Louisville in the BET and then won the National Championship. That's some road.

You have to keep in mind that this article is coming from an Omaha perspective. CU is basically coming up from the minor leagues, where there may have been a handful of good teams in the league. The C7 experienced the ultimate meat grinder in the old BE, so this type of schedule is old hat for them.

Glad this thread generated some discussion. Just a note that I think the new Big East has been a smashing success thus far. The Nova victory last year cemented us as a power conference, where we're always in the top 5 or 6 of any metric anyway.....that said what would put us in the upper echelon among those is more success for teams not named Nova in March. PC only has 1 win, but under coach Cooley we're making progress from the decade past of wilderness.

How about Syracuse in 2009. Played 4 games in 4 days before losing in the conference tournament finals to Louisville. That 4 game run in the BET included:

- 6 Overtime win over UConn
- Followed by an Overtime win over West Virginia the next night

Those 7 overtimes made it the equivalent of playing 5 games in 4 days!

Syracuse had enough left in the tank to advance to the Sweet 16 before losing to favored Oklahoma, the 2-seed.
