so one player refutes the point?

here's what i know.

a lot of coaches really dislike the alford never paid his dues and got the head gig at Manchester handed to him.

a lot of IN HS coaches are still pissed about how he handled things while at iowa - and a lot of things that were said at the time. a lot of long memories on the pierre pierce situation as well.

the luke recker transfer rubbed a lot of people wrong.

plus alford is just generally an asshole.

sam is not universally liked by other coaches either.

none of this is really secret either - feel free to talk to some coaches that have been around awhile.

Well yeah. Wilkes certainly shows your "intel" is inaccurate. You need to come to Indy and hit the streets. How many Indy HS games did you see this year? Alford is still golden in Indy.

More of the same:

Debbie Yow got her man. But he wasn’t anyone who was listed as a leading candidate after she fired Mark Gottfried.

Underwood was making $1 million per year at Oklahoma State. Illinois likely made him a significantly better offer.

Mike Hopkins takes over at Washington. Syracuse's head coach in-waiting has decided to take a different job. Wonder who ends up taking over Boeheim then.

Chis Mack (Xavier)
We haven’t gotten any concrete info that points to Mack being a major candidate for this job, but he does fit the mold of a guy that NC State could be looking at. He’s been very successful at Xavier, taking them to 6 NCAA tournaments in 7 years (including 3 Sweet 16s.) It’s believed that in the next few years Mack could be looking for a more high-profile gig. Should NC State reach out to Mack? Well he’s been extended through 2022, but it’s not like he’s making a ton. As of now he’s making in the $1.5 range, so could $2.5 pull him away? Who knows. One major thing to consider is that Xavier is his Alma-mater, so there are some personal ties to his current school that might make this tough.

Chris Mack, Head Coach At Xavier
Portfolio: Mack worked as an assistant under Sean Miller at Xavier from 2004-09. When Miller left for the Arizona job, Mack was promoted to the head coaching position in April 2009, which he has served since. He won the A-10 in his first two years with the program, has advanced to the NCAA tournament in six of his seven seasons at the school - including three Sweet 16's - and could make it back again this year.

Why he makes sense: Mack's $1.1 million salary could receive a big raise at Indiana. The IU job is obviously a higher-profile position.

Why he doesn’t make sense: Is he happy at Xavier? He's been there quite a while.

Odds he would be interested: Seems realistic - if IU wants him.

Indiana coaching search: Chris Mack has done great at Xavier, and would be worth considering for IU – SB Nation – March 19, 2017, 6:10 pm EDT
Xavier just reached their fourth Sweet 16 under Chris Mack. Is that enough to get the attention of the Hoosiers?

Chris Mack’s present market value is easily in the range of Gregg Marshall ($3.3 million/yr.) and Shaka Smart ($3.0 million/year), if not higher.

Xavier has survived head coaches leaving and will survive this one if Mack ever moves on. Dayton on the other hand...

I may be in the minority, but I don't think Mack or Holtmann seriously consider IU. They are both well-positioned to compete not only for Big East Championships every year, but also in position to make deep runs in the tournament year-in and year-out. They are well-liked and respected at their respective schools, and going to Indiana, where anytime you don't make a deep run, you are immediately criticized. I think IU will end up looking at other alternatives.

In my mind, I think Indiana looks at:

1.) Scott Drew - has won at Baylor, after a huge scandal, and knows Indiana because he's coached at Valparaiso. He's also had strong consistent success in the tournament. With everything going on at Baylor, I think Drew is ready to move on.

2.) Tim Jankovich - had great year at SMU, is from Indiana, and has learned from Larry Brown. SMU is losing Moore and Brown, and will lose some of its luster after Brown has left. Knows the Midwest.

3.) Isaiah Thomas - this one really pains me, because he destroys every basketball operation he touches. However, he is an IU alum, loved and respected by the fan base. He would, essentially, be the Jim Harbaugh-hire for IU. He would need to hire strong basketball assistant coaches in order to help (he failed miserably at FIU). He would be able to recruit Chicago and Indiana, and really help put Indiana back in the national spotlight.

Their 'hot board' thing is Billy Donovon / Steve Alford right now. I think they want Donovon, but Alford won't say no. It's not getting any further than that.

If this was mid major Xavier (before realignment), I'd say he's gone. But they are in a major conference now with success. Xavier needs to ante up for him or he will leave. As long as they can offer a competitive salary

Both X and Butler need to pony up after this year. Holtmann has no ties to butler so i would think he is gone if given the right offer...
