Lunardi's latest bracket still has 6 teams in, with Providence and Georgetown #7 and #8 team out.

yeah, with the 1st and 3rd teams in though on the other way with Marquette and Seton Hall. Saturday is pretty much a must win for Marquette vs Xavier- a loss and they are 15-11 with a RPI around 90. Not a recipe to make the tourney.

Then Sunday is huge for Georgetown @ Creighton. A win, and if they can beat DePaul and Seton Hall or St John's- they're sitting on 17 wins and really just needing 1 more to feel really safe at that point.

It's such a tease seeing the league so close to 8! bids, but with likely not enough wins to go around to make it happen.

Am I evil in hoping for a bunched up #3 to #9 seeds heading in to the BET? It'd make for truly dramatic tournament, even Wednesday games

It seems pretty likely at this point. At this point, I could somewhat realistically see anyone not named DePaul win the Big East Tournament. The league has a pretty clear #1 and #10, and then everything else is a mess. And with Villanova largely playing a short rotation, that drags them back into the mix for the task of winning 3 games in 3 days. The Big East Tournament is going to be fun. I expect to see a lot more than the only 2 upsets (SHU in the SF and F) we got last year.

I'm seeing a 2-way tie for 3rd place and a 4-way tie for 5th. I'd say that oops pretty bunched up.

Still a chance for 6, 7 teams. From Eamonn Brennan:

In the past couple weeks, you've likely heard that the 2017 NCAA tournament is going to be glutted with mediocre power-league teams. It will be. This is why, but it's not the whole answer.

The other reason? Lots of leagues just aren't that good.

The Mountain West is a good example. From 2009-10 to 2014-15, the MWC grabbed 18 NCAA tournament bids. Seven of those teams were No. 5 seeds or higher. During that span, the Mountain West was frequently the equal -- and sometimes the superior -- of the Pac-10 and/or 12. Now look: Nevada and Boise State are the only two teams who are in the tournament conversation, and neither would be an at-large selection if the tournament was seeded today.

Or look at the American. Cincinnati and SMU are excellent, yes. But Memphis? One-time powerhouse Connecticut? Temple? Barring a late push from Houston or a surprise tournament outcome, the American will be a two-bid league. The same looks likely of the Atlantic 10, where Rhode Island is the only team with a real chance to join Dayton and VCU on the bubble before the end of the regular season.

Yes there's still a chance. But the teams have to get to at least 17-18 wins to have that chance. There's like I said a ton of teams already with 17+ wins that the BE teams are fighting with.
Marquette must go absolute bare minimum 3-2 or 4-1. They have absolutely no chance at 17-14
Seton Hall must go at least 2-3 to have a chance.
Providence most likely needs 3-1 to get in. 18-13 will be extremely unlikely.
Georgetown needs 3-2 to have a chance, but even there, 17-14 is really dicey.

The Marquette/Providence loser really is in deep trouble. They would both most likely have to win out except for that game to get in.
The Seton Hall/Georgetown loser is in some trouble, esp if it's the Hoya's.

To me right now-
5 teams- about a 80% chance
6 teams- about a 10% chance
4 teams- about a 5% chance
7 teams- about a 5% chance

If you stuck a gun to my head and asked how many teams the BE gets.

Don't discount the Big East tournament. Crazy stuff happens there every season. A team you might be shorting right now could get a win over Butler or Villanova at MSG and that's enough to put them over the top.

well 1 problem with that is that it's VERY possible, that the team that gets the shot at Butler or Nova at MSG is St John's(after playing DePaul).
