Mike Greenfield at Team Rankings does a power rating for the last 5 games. Here's how the Big East teams stand with the first number being their national rank for the last 5 games and in parentheses a team's last 5 record, followed by its last 5 power rating.

Interesting that while Creighton and Xavier have faltered and dropped from where they were, no one has stepped in to take advantage of it. In fact, Butler has faltered more than either of them in the last 5 games. The Big East tournament should be a doozy next month.

the BET has a chance to be the best one in ages, with possibly 4 teams playing desperation basketball trying to make the tourney.

Am I reading this right? So five games ago CU was rated 11.9 with a 17-1 record (only loss at the time to then #1 Nova) and Providence was rated 13.6 with a 12-7 record which included a 14 point loss at home to Creighton? SOS was THAT different? Seems like another metric that has significant bias. Don't get me wrong, I dig the different metrics, but that seems like an incredible example of bias. Even now, CU is 20-3 with recent wins over Xavier and Butler--both on the road (the losses to MU and GU notwithstanding)--and is rated 41, but now PU is 14-10 with recent wins over MU and GU (coincidental, yes), and they are rated 30. Weird.

No. The numbers are a rating of how the teams performed ONLY in the last 5 games.

Ok. So Providence goes 2-3 and they are the 30th rated team in that time? I realize two losses in that stretch are to Nova, but they were losses all the same. SOS/RPI/whatever seems to be a very large component of this calculus. Wins/losses not so much?

And I'm not making this a CU vs. PU thing. Just noticing the records and how similarly the two are rated by this metric. Still not sure it tells us anything important or real. Unless the committee uses this to gauge how well teams played at the end of the season?

It's a power rating system and has nothing to do with RPI. It does, however, reflect point spreads, home/road, and strength of opponent.
