01/30 Polls

Postby Hall2012 » Mon Jan 30, 2017 4:11 pm

Gonzaga the new #1 in both polls (AP/Coaching)

From the Big East:

#4 Villanova
#16/15 Butler
#22 Creighton
NR/25 Xavier

Xavier is 2nd in also receiving votes, putting them #27 in the AP Poll.

Is anyone else shocked that Marquette didn't receive a single vote? I expected them to break into the top 25 before the loss to Providence, but I figured they'd still get at least a few votes.

They had 6 prior losses before the loss to Providence. They really needed to go on a mini run with no losses to get rated. I think without the loss to Providence, they would have been close to the top 25. Since they hadn't been receiving votes before their two recent wins, I didn't expect top 25. It takes time to get noticed. They have a chance, but they need another run!

Unfortunately, the top teams are getting beat up by the middle and bottom teams too much. Creighton plays Butler and Xavier this week. I highly doubt we go 2-0 so we are likely gonna get knocked out. If X loses to us, they will lose all their votes. It will likely be just Nova and Butler next week.....

That's exactly why I was hoping to see some love for Marquette this week. With no bad losses, I thought back to back top 15 wins would've made an impression on some voters. The Creighton-Xavier loser will be gone, and with the injuries both have, there's no guarantee either will win their other game this week (Creighton @ Butler, Xavier vs. Seton Hall). Getting Marquette in to replace one of them would soften the blow a little.

Creighton holds it poll positions and surprises the pundits by winning both games this week. Fortunately both Butler and X are still ranked (X in Coaches Poll).

If the Jays win tonight and Saturday, they skyrocket up the polls (~lower teens or better). It would demonstrate that they have turned the corner after Watson's injury and that they are legit. Heck, their record would be 21-3 overall and 8-3 in the BEast with two recent wins over top 25 teams--one of them on the road. A win at Butler can't be overlooked by anyone--even ESPN.

Now I am not predicting that (lest Stever start throwing win odds at me until I vomit). But I AM hoping for that.

I didn't see that one coming. We shot well and Patton was awesome on both ends the second half. Butler is out of sync. They are better than they have shown the last two games.
