Gonzaga - new #1?

With Villanova, Kansas, and Kentucky all losing last night the door is open for Gonzaga to ascend to #1. When was the last true mid-major conference team ranked #1? I can't remember if Wichita State did a few years ago or not.

Gonzaga got to #1 in 2013. Wichita never got to #1 in 2014, but got as high as #2.

The next question is whether they can run the table? The only games left on their schedule which are difficult are against 15-6 BYU and at St Marys.

They should be favored in all 3 games, but St Mary's could be a problem. They might be better off losing a game to get the monkey off their back before the tournament.

Despite their relatively weak schedule, wins over Arizona, Florida, St Mary's, and Iowa State give them credibility. So I can see the voters picking them #1, and I can see them getting a 1-seed - top seed overall if they run the table.

If Villanova beats Virginia @ Philly... should they remain #1?

If Nova loses, and Kansas beats Kentucky? Should Kansas be #1?

If Nova loses, Kansas loses, Should Kentucky be #1?

Its gonna be interesting how it plays out.

I'm just hoping for a Villanova victory.

that's going to be one soft bracket if Gonzaga gets 1 seed. I bet we see Duke in that same bracket wherever Gonzaga is.

Duke as a #5 opposite a #4 like West Virginia in Gonzaga's bracket in Greensboro would be the most Duke thing ever (although it can't happen)
