1/9 AP Poll

-Villanova falls to 3rd, retains 1 first place vote
-Creighton climbs to 8th
-Butler rises to 12th
-Xavier up to 15
-Seton Hall tops also receiving votes but with only 11 (there's a tie for 25th, meaning SHU would be 27th)
-Voters this week seem to be very much in agreement on the top 24 (Minnesota 24th at 167) but it only took 20 points to get the #25 spot (tied between USC and K-State)
-What's the fewest amount of points needed to be ranked in an AP Poll? I feel like 20 has to be pretty close...

this is the big week for things...
Xavier plays @ Nova
Butler plays @ Creighton
Xavier plays @ Butler

So Xavier and Butler could easily be coming into their game on Saturday with both having lost. loser of that game will drop some in that situation with an 0-2 week. Even with 2 top 15 opponents. Poll mentality.

Yeah, 20 points is pretty minimal for a ranked team. I don't doubt that it is historically one of the most uninspiring rankings in recent year.

I like how St. Mary's went 2 spots backwards. Play some real teams if your conference schedule has only 1 quality opponent.

1-5 there's very little difference, but why is Kansas ahead of Nova? I'd love for Nova to see them again in the tournament.

How much will Xavier fall when somebody for Nova goes off from 3 and Xavier loses by 30?

Dropping Villanova to third was not justified, and demonstrates that the poll voters still favor Power 5 conference teams over the Big East.

College Basketball Talk Top 25: Is Baylor really the No. 1 team in the country? – CBS Sports - January 9, 2017
If your basis for determining who the best team is strictly results-oriented, are you really going to drop Villanova for losing on the road to a team with a top ten résumé (Butler) on a night when the consensus National Player of the Year favorite shoots 3-for-11 when Baylor beat Iowa State and Oklahoma State at home by a combined six points?

Just out of curiosity, I would like to see how Baylor and Kansas fare in front of sold-out crowds at Creighton and Butler.

Tuesday January 10th:

# 10 West Virginia 89, # 1 Baylor 68

# 2 Kansas @ Oklahoma (6-8) - 9:00 PM tip-off

# 3 Villanova 79, #15 Xavier 54

The poll voters have gone into hiding, and not without good reason.
