However, as a team they continuously shoot themselves in the foot and as a result will likely continue to beat themselves in games they should win. The Pirates are among the worst teams in the country in both turnover rate and free throw shooting. With everything else they have going for them, if they could protect the ball and knock down free throws at even a slightly below average rate, they'd easily be a top 25 team. However, if they don't get these 2 glaring issues fixed quickly, they may find themselves headed to the NIT.

it's amazing the ft shooting....

look at conference play.
Seton Hall is #10 right now. 59.5%
Georgetown is #9 right now. 67.6%
Everyone else is over 70%. With 6 over 74%.

to%-
Seton Hall #10 right now at 23.6%
DePaul #9 at 20.6%
Providence #8 at 19.9%
everyone else at 18.5% or better.

It's gotten so bad with free throws that Willard pretty much admitted they now spend as much time working on rebounding them as actually making them.

We couldn't find a decent D1 game as everyone is in conference play and we didn't want an RPI killer, so we scheduled Truman (won't count against RPI). Oh well! Won't be 18000 at that game!!

Not so fast, Truman game is sold out.
Really, wow! Now that surprises me. Good for the fans!!

SHU boards are pretty much in full on meltdown mode, calling for Willard's head after these 2 losses.

As for Willard, he called out his players post-game for an "embarrassing" effort and vowed changes.

We'll see what happens. This road trip can still be saved from being a complete failure, but that would require a miracle @ Nova on Monday. Seems unlikely.

Needing a Miracle? No problem. The Hall wins over Villanova - at Satan's Den (the Pavilion, in Radnor Township, PA). This is a Large Miracle, the fees are a bit higher for these. I'll need 4 seats at the Jays at SH game for this one.

If Seton Hall changes its stripes and starts making some free throws, they could win this game.

Their strengths match up well against Villanova. They're 18th in the country in rebound margin and 28th in offensive rebounds. Villanova doesn't have a true center. That's an advantage for them to exploit. Seton Hall also defends well against the 3 (32%), which is a staple of the Villanova offense. If they can frustrate Villanova on the perimeter, that's another plus. Hopefully they can have a good fan turnout for a game that's just down I-95 if Villanova will make any tickets available. Of course they have to make their FTs. ;)

The Big 3 apparently called a player only meeting following the 0-3 week. It worked last year when Derrick Gordon called one at pretty much the same point and got the season turned around. Hopefully it works again.

It's a must win for SHU, but I wouldn't be surprised at all by a loss to St. John's. The Hall is clearly not playing well at the moment and you know that if nothing else, Mullin will have his guys fired up and ready to fight for 40 minutes.

For Seton Hall to turn their season around, they really need Angel Delgado to start doing something from the free throw line. Everyone's defending him the same way at this point- If he touches the ball in the paint, double team him and hack him, whatever you do don't let him get a shot up without contact. If he could even hit 65%, he'd A. get some more points from those hacks, B. suddenly find some space to finish in the paint, and C. take less of a beating and have more gas in the tank at the end of games.

He's undoubtedly the Hall's best player and at times seems like the whole team, but this one hole in his game is really holding both him and his team back from reaching their full potential.

He's been 55% two years in a row and was worse before that. So, it's not likely to happen. Maybe the strategy should be to have him take 30 shots a game so he can foul out the entire other team all by himself. ;)
