That's rough. Honestly I feel bad for the Georgetown faithful and the players and coaches at this point. It's an incredibly difficult situation to be in. JTIII had been doing a pretty good job, tourney losses after the F4 run aside right up to the new Big East conference, but whatever happened, things just have been trending in an incredibly bad direction for the Hoyas. The Thompson family has done some amazing things for the basketball program and University as a whole, but at some point, it's time to make a move. Good luck to the Hoyas going forward, because if they get the right coach in there, it won't take long to get that program back to where many expected it to be on a consistent basis.

The big thing was the freedom of movement rules. Here's Georgetowns defensive free throw rate(ft/fg) for the past 5 years... overall 1st column/national rank 2nd, conference 3rd/conference rank 4
2012 36.3 175 38.4 12
2013 35.3 154 37.9 10
-------------------------------------- (both OBE/NBE and freedom of movement rules)
2014 52.4 331 49.4 9
2015 44.1 305 46.1 9
2016 49.3 345 52.8 10
2017 37.5 217 48.3 10

so this year, it's gotten a lot better at least. BUT- in conference play, that rate is back up to 48.3. Also consider that the conference free throw shooting is the best it's ever been- 72.3% this year after 72.5% last year(never before was it higher than 71.5%)

The other thing is that in the OBE, with 16 teams, teams didn't get a chance to scout/get a book on other teams anywhere near as much as they do now. And the Hoyas were a tough team to prepare for. Now that advantage if you will has gone.

I feel bad for Georgetown fans as I think they have the talent but just can't close out games. I think there has to be a change at top in my opinion. A competitive Georgetown program is important to the Big East.
