Just looked at Garry Parrish's Top 26:

Why is Notre Dame in the polls? Why is South Carolina? Why Is Cincy? I don't get it. this is b.s

I still believe the B.E programs are not getting the benefit of the doubt like other conferences.

Cincinnati: Winning at top 50 Iowa State, collecting a "good loss" at Butler, and having great advanced metrics (Kenpom #18, Sagarin #14) is an effective route to being ranked, especially when you start the season around the edge of the top 25.

Notre Dame and South Carolina aren't as easily justified, though. Both teams have put together pretty good tournament resumes so far this season, but neither has really shown themselves to be a top 25 team. In addition, Notre Dame only received a few preseason votes and South Carolina received none, so one can't posit preseason bias.

I was joking about TCU this morning. They've beaten no one.
I'm seeing Iowa State at RPI #105, right?
In recent years Cincinnati, like was mentioned last Monday, requires 12 crowbars to pry it from the Top-25. They have some sort of entitlement to be ranked. The voters don't want to see Mick Cronin cry. PC would beat them by double digits. Whatever, it is what it is, maybe voters feel bad for the AAC.

RPI is worthless this early in the season; by it's very design, it is not a reliable metric until the season is close to wrapping up. By RPI Forecast, Iowa State is projected 35th with approximately a 4 in 5 shot of being a top 50 team.

I don't suppose we can see enough losing towards the bottom of the poll to start league play with 5 ranked teams? Unfortunately Seton Hall can't really help its own cause as its last OOC game is about avoiding a landmine rather than a chance to make a statement.

Prolly not-
#25 Notre Dame- vs Colgate
#24 Cincy- vs Marshall
#23 USC- vs Cornell, then Missouri St, and DePaul/Wyoming in Las Vegas tourney
#22 South Carolina- vs Clemson(possible loss there)
#21 Florida St- vs Samford
#20 Oregon- vs Fresno St
#19 St Mary's- vs Texas A&M-CC, South Carolina St
#18 Arizona- vs New Mexico
#17 Xavier- vs E Washington
#16 Indiana- vs Delaware St, Austin Peay

it would be extremely unlikely to see enough losing. South Carolina the only one with a even really possible loss.

It's possible but very unlikely. Take care of business convincingly and get some help from the teams ranked 20+.

Some games that SHU fans should monitor:
12/20/16: Texas A&M - CC @ #19 St. Mary's - totally serious
12/20/16: Fresno State @ #20 Oregon
12/21/16: Clemson @ #22 South Carolina
12/22/16: Missouri State @ #23 USC

The rest of the games involving teams ranked 20+ are pretty much guaranteed to be one-sided affairs.

It goes without saying, but SHU will be ranked if they win their next three. However, to do that, they'll have to win at Creighton, which would be one hell of an accomplishment. They'd absolutely deserve a ranking if they pulled it off though.

All true. And big picture, Seton Hall would be much better off with South Carolina beating Clemson. Getting ranked in late December is near meaningless; I'd much rather their signature OOC win continue to climb. It would also help to prove that SC without Thornwell is still a formidable team and a quality win.
