UConn upset Syracuse tonight...
For BE purposes-
UConn- only BE opponent is Georgetown
Syracuse- Georgetown and St John's

Syracuse may be in a bit of trouble. IF Georgetown can upset them in Syracuse, They would go into conference play at 9-4. With a tough conference schedule. Would need at least 9 conference wins, if not 10.

For UConn, if they can upset Ohio St on Saturday, They could go into conference play with only 4 losses as well. 6-4 (remember the Chaminade game doesn't count- and they play Georgetown in January). Looking at their schedule, they only have 1 game with Tulane as a sub .500 game.

Optimism for an AAC school and pessimism for an ACC school? Shocker lol.

I agree Syracuse is in trouble. I'm hoping SJU can upset them for the third year in a row, but regardless I don't think Syracuse is making the tournament.

UConn has won their games by a combined 7 points (not counting the D2 game which nobody looks at, but even that was closer than it should have been). Truth is they may not even be as good as their record, but even their RPI (which doesn't take margin of Ws/Ls into account) is 203. IF they can win their last 4 OOC games, which feature opponents from 3 major conferences and 2 on the road, then they'll head back towards respectability. That's a massive IF and requires a massive improvement in play.

Neither school can be counted out. I mean Syracuse probably will need to win 10 conference games minimum, but last year they made the tournament when nobody thought they deserved to. UConn is UConn and finds a way more often than not.

That said I don't think either will make the tournament this year. Their current resumes are not just bad, but horrible, and their play leaves little room for optimism.

they're really both in about the same boat. IF they can get to 19-20 wins, they're going to be set. UConn would with 19 wins be 18-11 vs d1, wth a projected RPI of 45.7. With a SOS of 41. OOC sos of 53. that gets you in almost every time.

for Syracuse, they may need 20 wins quite frankly. they would be 20-11 vs d1 with a projected RPI of 57.4. Projected SOS of 56. OOC SOS of 166.

So if anything, UConn has more of a shot than Syracuse does. Who would have thunk that?

Regarding UConn's RPI- right now their own record is only 3-4.8. .385. IF they can beat Ohio St, they would be 4.4-4.8 or .478. Just the increase in own winning percentage would up their RPI by 35, before you take into account what Ohio St is in terms of opponents winning percentage.

I think a big game tonight will be GW @ Temple. If Temple can win that game, they should be in the top 25 next week when they play Villanova.

tonight a great night overall. of the 63 games played nation wide tonight, 22 in KP have a winning chance for the winning team of less than 70%. Another 7 have between 70-75%. So almost half the games should be competitive. Love nights like this.

RPI at this time of year is pretty meaningless. Ken Pom has UConn at #80 in his power rankings, Greenfield has them at #83, and Sagarin has them at #102. UConn has a ton of talent, but their PG has missed the last 5 games with a separated shoulder. They've been going through an adjustment period. With a top 50 SOS, once they get it together, the RPI will take care of itself. The last couple of games suggest that it's beginning to come together for them.

Iowa's win over Iowa State last night was very nice for Seton Hall. By season's end it should be a nice RPI boost for the Hawkeyes and if they can find their way to middle of the B1G they may end up being a decent road win for the Pirates.

Iowa is projected to finish 14-17 in Ken Pom right now. Going to RPI forecast, that would provide a final rpi around 147.8. Their OOC SOS isn't that good(only #164). It would take 3 more wins over projections for Iowa to just make them a top 100 win. Very difficult to see.

Part of it with Iowa is their RPI record right now is only 3-5.4. Haven't won away from home, and lost 2 home games. If they lose to No Iowa next Saturday, then win their final 2 home games before conference play, they would be 7-6 record, but in RPI only 4.2-6.4. That hurts.
