F Jamarko Pickett, #78 in 247 composite who was an Ole Miss decommit just chose Georgetown over Maryland. Congrats to Ewing on his first big recruit!

Georgetown should be all over (through back channels of course) 5* Mitchell Robinson. It sounds like he left Western Kentucky and is looking to go elsewhere, even applying for a waiver for this coming year. He was at WKU for 2 weeks before leaving. He is a big that could immediately start for Ewing.

I wonder what happened there? Two weeks? His going to WKU never made a whole lot of sense from a national attention perspective. He would be a great get for any BE team!

His godfather was like assistant coach at WKU but left recently so Robinson jumping ship isnt a huge surprise.....

Not only Georgetown should be all over him, but many other schools who have an extra scholarship. He's a player who'd start almost anywhere he went to play collegiately. But, Robinson was already enrolled in school, so he'll need a waiver to be available to play for anyone other than Western Kentucky this season. If he doesn't receive a waiver, then he'll have to sit out wherever he enrolls or go play ball abroad this season.

I believe if he does receive a waiver, then he'll probably end up with Kentucky or LSU.

That would be Shammond Williams.

Shammond Williams was mentioned as a possible Georgetown assistant under Ewing, no doubt for his recruiting. They played together briefly in the NBA for Seattle.

Unlike DePaul, who hired Heirman, Georgetown didn't need a quick fix with a hot name recruiter as an assistant coach. I like Ewing's staff and believe things will be righted for the Hoyas.

So lets look at the class.
11 Xavier 2 4 stars
19 Providence 2 4 stars
23 Creighton 3 4 stars
26 Villanova 2 4 stars
34 Butler 1 4 star
41 Seton Hall 1 4 star
56 Marquette
73 DePaul
75 Georgetown
106 St Johns 1 4 star
total of 12 4 stars
avg class rating of 46.4

lets look at comparisons....
2014 1 5 star, 16 4 stars
2015 2 5 star, 9 4 stars
2016 1 5 star, 12 4 stars
2017 0 5 star, 12 4 stars

by my rating system from earlier in the thread. 5 points for 1-10, 4 points for 11-20, 3 points for 21-30, 2 points for 31-40, 1 point for 41-50
2014 18
2017 17
2015 13
2016 12

top 100 recruits
2014 15
2017 11
2016 7
2015 7

by avg class
2017 46.4
2014 50.6
2016 52.7
2015 60.4

To me, the 2014 class is still the gold standard. 17 4 or 5 star guys to only 12. With most of them in the top 100. I was wrong when I said this was worst class looking at the numbers. The last few pick ups cemented that.

Just revisiting as I kind of figured Stever wouldn't come back to do so. With the Hoyas grabbing the 4-star Pickett, they move up to #48 in the class rankings.

lets look at comparisons....
2014 1 5 star, 16 4 stars
2015 2 5 star, 9 4 stars
2016 1 5 star, 12 4 stars
2017 0 5 star, 13 4 stars

by my rating system from earlier in the thread. 5 points for 1-10, 4 points for 11-20, 3 points for 21-30, 2 points for 31-40, 1 point for 41-50
2014 18
2017 18
2015 13
2016 12

top 100 recruits
2014 15
2017 12
2016 7
2015 7

by avg class
2017 43.9
2014 50.6
2016 52.7
2015 60.4

I guess the OP was right when he said the 2017 class COULD be the best yet. It's certainly debatable. It seems clear to me that this is about comparing 2014 & 2017. Determining which class was better for the BE makes you choose between overall class rankings vs individual player rankings. More Top 100 players in 2014, greater balance of team rankings 1-10 in 2017. Actually if you add in guys like Omari Spellman and Joey Brunk, I think a more accurate statement might be that the 2017 season is seeing the greatest overall influx of new players with 4 years of eligibility remaining that we've ever had. Any way you slice it 2017 just cement the fact that the BE is a legitimate BB power conference and it does not seem that momentum is slowing down any time soon.

I think this shows a nice overall trend. 2014, alot of the recruits were recruited based on the "old Big East", then it took a couple years of great basketball, a national POY, a National Champion, a high percentage of NCAA tournament teams and now you are seeing the recruiting pick up in 2017 and it's trending well in 2018 now. Recruits see the Big East as a legit power conference and the recruiting proves it.

Is there any place we can pin all of the "Big East won't be able to recruit top-level talent" posts from several years ago to the top? I'd love for all of those ignorant fans to marvel at their work.

here's the classes now.....
11 Xavier
19 Providence
20 Creighton
24 Villanova
45 Seton Hall
57 Marquette
61 Butler
73 Georgetown
77 St John's
78 DePaul

avg class is now 46.5. It's weird though- Georgetown should be higher than 73 I think as they picked up Pickett(#78 on the composite)- and didn't lose anyone. That should be WAY more than a 2 slot improvement. 48 seems very reasonable. Assuming that's the case, the average class would be 44.2(taking Georgetown to 48 and then moving Marquette to 58 and Butler 62).

top 100 recruits- it's 15 for 2014 to 11 for 2017. While got Pickett, lost Butler lost Kyle Young.

Also, wouldn't say even with Spellman(#21) and Brunk(#119)- that 2017 is better incoming with 4 years of eligibility than 2014 was. 2014 had 15 top 100 guys incoming. 2017 has only 12. 2017 class is good. But it's not as good as 2014 was. And you are assuming that Brunk will get the waiver for last year. As recent as a few weeks ago, that hasn't been approved as of yet.
