B the way, beating Uconn in football is nothing to be proud of. They were a terrible fcs team and are arguably the worst FBS team in the entire nation. It was pathetic how nova lost to syracuse last yr.

And I have never celebrated beating rutgers at anything. That schools is complete garbage at everything. When you stoop so low as to celebrate beating Ritgers at something it is time to off yourself.

Haha, ball is the best.

Don't ever let facts stand in the way, ball.

Vince wasn't demoted - he resigned to accept a less strenuous position. You don't work hard enough to ever understand this.

Villanova basketball clears around $2M per year, so how can we possibly redirect $6M of basketball revenue to support football? We can't. I know this doesn't help the pro-football camp, but just another example of you bending the facts.

Since you are the authority, how much do the football alums and supporters donate per year? One just gave $10M, so that is two years covered. Please illuminate us.

For other interested parties, Villanova is perfectly fine with football at its current level and the school values the contributions of both the sport and its alumni to the Villanova community. ball can rant all he wants, but this won't change any time soon. Villanova's athletic subsidies aren't out of line with any other Big East school, and less than some. Our endowment is probably the second largest in the league (after G'town, but too lazy to look it up) and growing quickly during our current $600MM campaign. We can afford high-level FCS football and will continue to do so. The Pavilion upgrade and any other basketball-centric projects aren't and won't be impeded by football's existence. The Davis Center is getting a multi-million dollar update right now to add dining facilities, for instance, wholly funded by donors.

Looking for a less strenuous job? Hmmm.... Interesting propaganda spin, but not believable considering he was just interviewing for the Pitt AD position. Is their AD position less strenuous? Or did he have a heads up that he was on his way out and given a chance to interview elsewhere?

Anyway, word on the street is that the villanova AD search committee does not contain a single football representative. Interesting.....

It has been since revealed that he was never actually a candidate for the Pitt job. Never interviewed.

The search committee has representatives that competed in exactly two sports: men's basketball and women's track. Should all of the other 20 sports be worried? I think not. Know who else is on it? Mike O'Neill, the VP for Development. I'm gonna guess he values a sport that contributes like football does.

Still waiting on your answers to the above questions, btw.

Why would other sports at villanova be worried? It can't get any worse for them. Villanova is neglecting its other sports so bad right now that it can only stay status quo or get better.

The elephant in the room is the six million annual deficit that football racks up. That's the area that needs change. While other big east schools are investing in hockey, soccer, and la crosse, nova neglects these sports so it can pump money into a football program that drew under two thousand fans for its home playoff game. Also, a basketball program that brings in over ten mill per yr in revenue only has an operating budget of six mill because football is killing th athletic program.

And I don't believe for a second this idea that nova football brought in $60 mill in donations the last decade. BS. There was a recent ten mill donation and howie's million, which almost covers the last two seasons operating losses. Nobody goes to the games, are you telling me those few people who actually attend are donating seven figures per year? BS!

It is so bad at villanova right now that it can only get better. The selfish football fans have had three decades of horrible fan support to show that villaniva football is a failure. Time to cut the chord.

Glad to see the university taking some action. Enough is enough.

Looking like Bob Steitz is going to be the hire. very, very good hire for those who want to see nova reduce football spending to fully fund basketball, soccer, lax and track.

This is a quote from one of the nova football tough guys who is officially in suicide watch over this redial shift in athletics priority at villanova:
Don't worry, when Bob Steitz is officially named VU AD, football will be less than an afterthought. I heard him say so himself to Bob Capone in the Conshy Marriott bar after an Andy Talley Show 1994 (in those days, the Show immediately followed the game). Capone had to be restrained from decking Steitz. Steitz first order of business will be to get his piccolo players under control. Once he does that, spiking football will follow.

There is a very vocal faction of football fans holding out hope that they can stop this hire, but their words are falling on deaf ears.

Vince was told to step down, and there will be more moves in the future that will make this more obvious to people. The hire of Mark Jackson, a guy who is coming from USC, and also worked with the Oakland Raiders, Syracuse Football, The New England Patriots, Tennessee Football, etc., is interesting no matter how you spin it.

Where are you guys exactly when it comes to the football issue?

I watched Villanova somewhat closely for a few years leading up to Xavier joining the Big East. I personally always concluded that big-time football for Nova was like the WWII movie A BRIDGE TOO FAR:

    Poor facilities options.
Small fanbase - - as football goes.
A desire - by some - to position for a transition to the Big East for football at a time when the Big East Football Conference was like standing on three inches of ice in 80+ degree weather.

For what is Nova solving when it comes to its football program?
