PC Hires Jeff Battle As Assistant Coach...!

The Friars just hired Jeff Battle to replace former assistant coach Bob Simon. Simon followed Ed Cooley from Fairfield and was fantastic, but recently joined Avery Bradley at Alabama.

Great news. Huge get. Battle recruited Chris Paul and Jeff Teague among others to Wake, not to mention James Posey and David West for our Xavier compadres.

Also, the Friars are looking to retain God Shammgod on our coaching staff.

That's great news for the Friars. Jeff is a good man. And he does know how to recruit, doesn't he!

Think it's interesting them picking up a guy who was from the SE.

Also- it's Avery Johnson who is the coach at Alabama, not Avery Bradley.

Just a thought, but I wonder if Cooley used this with Dunn in getting Dunn to come back to school to work with guy who used to coach CP3. I would think that would have been a huge selling point there, no?

It's definitely a bonus to have a guy like Battle who is known for coaching Paul and Teague around to coach Dunn, but I don't think it was a "huge selling point" Cooley pitched to Dunn to get him to stay. To be honest this probably wasn't much of a selling point at all. Dunn's guy is Shammgod. PC really needs to find a spot on the staff for him ASAP.

Jeff Battle was born and raised in Philadelphia. After Marshall, he joined Skip Prosser in Delaware, Xavier and Wake. His wife had a long illness, so he stayed rooted at Wake for stability. He's good friends with Ed Cooley. He's a talented recruiter and coach. He's a great hire. It's as simple as that.

Kris Dunn has been working with God Shammgod for years. No better coach and mentor than Shamm. Taught Kobe Bryant the cross-over. Battle is a great recruiter, coach and friend of Cooley. Again, it's as simple as that.
