I think every school is gonna jump on the "bandwagon" and say they are gonna pay FCOA. Some will pay 5,000/student, some will pay 1,000/student....

No word from anyone official, but I have a friend who works in the athletic department. Word is that MU wants to be "highly competitive" when it comes to FCOA but hasn't yet settled on a number. I have no idea how to interpret that.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

the only foca I can find on MU is a little dated 10-11, and it was $4058. That figure is the average Pell grant for 10-11 academic year so it's easy to make a jump to $5,000 or $425 month type figure. Athletes are just going to be given the higher range of the foca figure not the need base like how Pell figure is determined. Not sure how any school wanting to remain competitive will be able to offer less than something north of $4000.

BEwannabe,
I fully agree with your last sentence. It is essential that all schools and especially all BE schools offer FCOA. When you think about it there are only going to be 26 players (13 male/ 13 female) who it will be essential for. I suspect many schools will also offer FCOA for Hockey, Soccer, LAX and various other minor sports however it will be necessary in the BE only for basketball and an equivalent number of women's positions. The amount expended on these players will only be $130,000 if each is given $5000.00. It is the football schools who will have a huge expenditure. I calculate that the 85 football players with the 13 basketball players and an equal number of women will almost be one million dollars annually.

curious for sure, are the FCOA's you're posting the on the record athletic FCOA or is the FCOA from the university websites aka avg Pell Grant?

Some really interesting comps here:
UNLV & ASU - It costs more to go to school in Vegas than Phoenix?

My favorite thought is UCLA and USC! That's an instant classic!

Check the above article. The MWC will not require payment of FCOA it will be up to the individual school. This appears to relate to the Pell Grant however the article is not definitive.

Horizon League is in. It will be the exception not to be in.

Yeah, Horizon voted UNANIMOUSLY to REQUIRE all members to provide FCOA for men's and women's basketball. I doubt it gets a whole lot lower on the totem pole (particularly at non-P5, non-AAC/MWC football conferences), but it is pretty clear that a solid FCOA is going to be a bare minimum for major schools going forward.

Whilst researching this topic I ran into a post which stated that all members of the Sun Belt Conference will pay the FCOA. There was no amounts given. The Sun Belt is the lowest of Division 1A football schools. We know that Val stated a few months ago that the BE will pay the FCOA but the information we lack is how much each school will pay. That is a rather important fact.
