Please see post on 6/23/15 for Alabama vs. Auburn information
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Chronicle of Higher Education has listed the amounts of FCOA which many schools will pay to student-athletes (primarily FB and BB). The highest is over $5600 and the lowest is $1400 (Poor Boston College voted against the FCOA in the NCAA meetings and is paying the lowest.) Please see the following list and peruse the article, it is very interesting. I would be interested in what we are going to pay in the BE and your comments upon it.

Highest FCOA paid by major NCAA schools
1. Tennessee: $5,666 SEC
2. Auburn: $5,586 SEC
3. Louisville: $5,202 ACC
4. Mississippi State: $5,126 SEC
5. Texas Tech: $5,100 Big XII
6. Penn State: $4,788 B1G
7. TCU: $4,700 Big XII
8. Oklahoma: $4,614 Big XII
9. Oklahoma State: $4,560 Big XII
10. Ole Miss: $4,500 SEC
11. Wisconsin: $4,316 B1G
12. Texas: $4,310 Big XII
13. South Carolina: $4,151 SEC
14. Kansas State: $4,112 Big XII
15. Arkansas: $4,002 SEC

Lowest FCOA paid by major NCAA schools
Boston College: $1400 ACC
Syracuse: $1632 ACC
Georgia Tech $1720 ACC
Purdue: $1760 BIG
Michigan State: $1872 B1G
West Virginia: $1971 BIG XII

The schools paying the highest will have a significant advantage in recruiting however this will not show up next year as all football and almost all basketball commitments have been decided already and in football already signed.

wow I'm almost at a loss for words and if you knew me well you'd think I must have had a stroke or something- I thought the stipend was going to be a negotiated $ amount for all schools - not Tennessee $6,000 and BC $1500. This is basically the current baseball model, I can't even begin to think how this will turn out, the big state schools paying athletes with taxpayer money at a rate of over 2 to 1 to the privates? Is everyone certain this is accurate and this isn't a Twilight Zone episode!

I saw that Twilight Zone episode. It showed Boston College, Notre Dame, Duke, and UConn dropping football to the separate non-minor league NFL division of college football and joining the Big East for all other sports. The Oh Henry ending was that St. Bonaventure was included too.

Yeah, that is a big discrepancy. I figured it would be the same for all schools atleast in the same conference. This is not gonna turn out well....

interesting line from the article......
Elite private institutions sometimes underestimate students’ personal expenses in their published cost of attendance as a way of limiting the sticker shock that can accompany their tuition bills.

One of the reasons I posted this article and information is because I have heard NOTHING about what the Big East schools will pay the scholar sportsmen. I am fairly certain that XU has not announced an amount or even if we will pay any FCOA. I expect this to put us at a significant disadvantage if we do not at least pay $2000 to $3000. Of course more would be better.

What are the other schools going to pay? Have any of you heard an announcement for your school? Any information from your local media or alumni groups would be welcomed, even rumors. Are there any schools which have announced they will not pay FCOA?

i questioned how this was going to be regulated/policed among the FB schools. once texas starts losing recruits to tennessee, they will try to outbid everyone for top recruits and this will start looking like free agent signing.

this does not even count all the under the table deals for parents and handlers. with full autonomy these schools don't have to worry about ncaa infractions.

Seton Hall's AD is on record as saying that Seton Hall will pay what other conferences pay but seeing such a discrepancy in what schools are going to pay, what does that mean?

And this REALLY opens a can or worms.

breaking down these #'s by the week, no they don't go to school 52 weeks a year but they do train 52 weeks a year.

So $5666 is $108 per week.

$3900 is $75 per week

$2600 is $50 per week

$1300 is $25 per week

$100 per week while the athletes are on campus is a lot of coin because they have no expenses but is what I would think is a fair figure, $75 minimum

$25 a week? That's not paying them.
