Current members of the Big East put together a really nice run with 4 Final Fours during the 5-year period of 2007-11. A lot of the optimism about what this league could be was based on that run by the combined efforts of 3 different programs. (I'm still optimistic.)

The doors are closed on this season. We are now 4 years Into a new 5 year period. Here's the comparison of what the two look like in the tournament (Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4) as we enter year 5.

2007-11 (5 programs) - 10 S16, 5 E8, 4 F4
2012-15 (2 programs) - 4 S16, 1 E8, 0 F4

I sure would like to see several teams make big runs next year.

Why those years? Just curious it seems like a rather odd break up and sample size.

Because over the last 25 years, those 5 years were the height of accomplishment in the tournament by current Big East members, i.e. 4 Final Fours concentrated within that 5 year period, accompanied by numerous Sweet 16's. I believe that the run over those 5 years represents the kind of success we'd like to see this conference have regularly, the kind of league we'd like to be.
